In Friolzheim, cycling and hiking trails meet a cultural program at the Zehntscheune and the historic architecture of Agapitus Church. This gives you a choice of different focuses when planning your trip: an outing on the trails mentioned, a visit to an event, or a look at the town’s architectural history.

Cycling and hiking trails from Friolzheim

Cycling and hiking trails described as safe lead from Friolzheim to Tiefenbronn, Mönsheim and the 510-meter-high Geissberg. These destinations offer different points of reference for a tour: two are named places, while the Geissberg is identified by its elevation. Trail conditions may change. Check them before your outing so your plans suit the route in question.

Culture at the Zehntscheune

The Zehntscheune is a modern community center and conference and event venue with an extensive cultural program. Throughout the year, it regularly hosts game nights, talks and readings, cabaret and variety performances, art exhibitions, events in the Swabian dialect, as well as music and dancing. The program ranges from quiet literary events to stage performances and social evenings. If you would like to combine your stay with an event, check the current dates in the event calendar.

Rooms at the Zehntscheune can also be rented for celebrations and events. They include the community hall, a small function room, a vaulted cellar, two meeting rooms and the foyer. If you are planning an event, ask about the current rental options in advance.

Architecture and history of Agapitus Church

Agapitus Church offers two distinct architectural features: parts of its chancel tower date from the Romanesque period, while the chancel is Gothic. A church in Friolzheim is mentioned as early as 1105 AD. This date refers to the historical mention; it does not automatically date the church building that stands today.

The regional setting: Enzkreis

As a broader travel destination, Enzkreis offers its own regional perspective. It is located in the Northern Black Forest region, in the heart of Baden-Württemberg, between the metropolitan areas of Stuttgart and Karlsruhe, and surrounds the independent city of Pforzheim. The landscapes also vary considerably: the northwestern part of Enzkreis belongs to the Kraichgau, where fields, meadows and vineyards define the scenery. In the Stromberg, wooded heights alternate with gentle valleys and sunny vineyard slopes. The Heckengäu is characterized by a barren landscape of juniper heaths, blackthorn, and hedges of hawthorn. In the southwest, the Northern Black Forest opens up, with dense fir forests, forest meadows, broad plateaus and narrow valleys. The region’s landscape thus ranges from open spaces and vineyard slopes to wooded heights and valleys.

More regional trails and cultural attractions

The hiking options in Enzkreis also vary in character. The signposted panoramic circular hiking trail in Freudenstein-Hohenklingen passes over the heights and through the vineyards and forests surrounding the town. By contrast, the Eppinger Linien Trail in Enzkreis is an artistic and historical hiking trail featuring installations between Eppingen and MĂĽhlacker. The two descriptions emphasize different aspects: one focuses on the landscape around a town, the other on a route connecting art and history.

For longer cycling routes, the focus is on different itineraries and total distances. The Stromberg-Murrtal Cycle Route in Enzkreis is 160 kilometers long and passes through Maulbronn on the Karlsruhe–Maulbronn–Marbach–Gaildorf route. The Enztal Cycle Route in Enzkreis runs for 105 kilometers and passes through Mühlacker on the Enzklösterle–Pforzheim–Mühlacker–Vaihingen–Walheim route. Check the current route and signage before setting out.

Another cultural highlight in Enzkreis is the museum at Neuenbürg Castle: the tour begins in the north wing with an immersive theatrical production of Wilhelm Hauff’s fairy tale “The Cold Heart.” Neuenbürg Castle in Enzkreis houses a branch museum of the Baden State Museum. Enzkreis is also home to the “Frischglück” mine in Neuenbürg, one of the old iron ore mines of the Northern Black Forest.
