Allevard offers travelers different perspectives: its industrial and thermal history can be explored at the museum and the Thermes d’Allevard, while Lac de la Mirande is a place for nature watching and activities by the water. The Tour du Treuil adds a former defensive structure to the picture. When planning your trip, you can decide whether to focus more on cultural history, architecture or nature.

Thermal History and Defensive Architecture

La Galerie, Musée d'Allevard-les-Bains is housed in the former casino in Allevard's thermal park. The museum shows how the metallurgical industry, the thermal spa and the ski slopes of Collet shaped the Allevard area over the centuries. Natural resources played an important role: iron ore, thermal water and the so-called “white gold.” The story spans industrial history, thermal bathing and the ski slopes.

Since 1849, the Thermes d’Allevard have combined tradition and innovation. They develop spa treatments and therapy protocols that complement the water's special properties with treatments from numerous fields. The site also features an attractive park and an Art Deco building. Here, the focus is on the development of spa treatments and the architecture; the museum, by contrast, tells how different resources shaped the area.

The Tour du Treuil adds a historic structure to these themes. It was a former keep used to watch for a possible arrival of the Savoyards. It also towers over the Allevard valley: the square defensive tower is almost 25 meters high. Its former function and architectural form offer two different ways to understand the tower—as part of the history of defense and as a striking structure in the valley.

Lac de la Mirande: Nature and Activities

On the edge of Allevard-les-Bains lies Lac de la Mirande, a peaceful natural spot. There are opportunities for fishing, a fitness trail and a walking path around the lake. These activities offer different options: you can consider fishing, exercising on the trail or walking around the water.

Nature watching is another activity at the lake. The natural surroundings are suitable for observing mallards and amphibians. At Lac de la Mirande, the focus is therefore not only on exercise but also on observing wildlife. For travelers interested in nature, this offers a different emphasis from industrial and thermal history or the architecture of the Tour du Treuil.

Getting There and Further Landscape Perspectives

The drive from Grenoble to Allevard-les-Bains follows the A41 and exit 23 at Le Touvet. From there, take the D525 for 11 kilometers toward Allevard-les-Bains. Check road conditions before setting out. This lets you plan your journey using the route given, without conflating it with the area's cultural and natural attractions.

The Tour du pays d'Allevard is a GR hiking trail with impressive panoramas. It adds another landscape perspective to nature watching at Lac de la Mirande. While the lake is associated with a walking path, a fitness trail and wildlife watching, the GR trail focuses on panoramic views. These can be considered as different interests when planning your trip.
