The Colline de Sion defines Meurthe-Et-Moselle with a striking combination of ridge and natural landscape: it rises to 545 metres and extends in a semicircle for almost five kilometres. In the southern section of the Colline de Sion-Vaudémont are limestone grasslands with protected animal and plant species. If you want to do more than simply admire the scenery and would like to combine different nature and culture themes, this is a distinctive place to start planning your trip.

Discover the landscape and trails

On the Colline de Sion, the Cité des Paysages offers a permanent landscape trail and regular biodiversity exhibitions. The programme also includes workshops, exhibitions, night walks and nature outings. For events such as night walks, it is advisable to check the latest dates before your trip.

The Parc naturel régional de Lorraine extends beyond Meurthe-Et-Moselle. Across the park, there are more than 500 kilometres of marked trails, including family routes that take around three hours on average. The Balades-54 app brings together circular routes in the département for hiking, cycling and horse riding; GPS tracks can be downloaded. This gives you a range of ways to explore the region on foot or on two wheels, without limiting every activity to the same way of getting around.

One specific hiking destination is the Sentier des Roises in Lucey: it combines the heritage of the area’s former hemp-growing industry with amphibian watching and a vineyard trail. For cycling, the Boucle de la Moselle offers a different kind of route. It runs mostly along greenways and shared minor roads, has little elevation change and is suitable for cyclists of all abilities. The artificial Pierre Percée reservoir adds its own distinctive feature to the landscape: it covers 304 hectares and is shaped like a maple leaf. You can hike there or try ziplining.

Culture, crafts and history

In Nancy, Place Stanislas, Place de la Carrière and Place d’Alliance together form a UNESCO World Heritage site. The Musée des Émaux et Faïences de Longwy offers a different perspective on applied arts, with more than 200 Longwy enamel pieces as well as historic faience services on display. In Vannes-le-Châtel, Cerfav focuses on contemporary glass art through exhibitions, demonstrations and hands-on activities. Each of these stops has its own focus—from landmark squares and historic collections to artistic design.

For an active outing, Fort Escape in Blénod-les-Toul offers underground mazes, an escape game area, laser tag and paintball. If you are focusing your trip more on landscapes and outdoor activities, these cultural and leisure options can add another dimension to your visit to the département.

Wine and regional specialities

Around Toul, the Route Touristique des Côtes de Toul runs north to south for about 30 kilometres. The AOC Côtes de Toul includes 16 wine estates and around 120 hectares; about two-thirds of production is certified organic. Gris de Toul is made from Gamay and Pinot Noir and paired locally with Quiche Lorraine, Pâté Lorraine, terrines and charcuterie. In Nancy, bergamot sweets, macarons and Quiche Lorraine are considered gastronomic specialities.

The Maison de la Mirabelle offers tastings, cocktail workshops and walks through orchards. In its visitor area, you can learn more about the history, production and cultivation of the Mirabelle plum. The culinary offerings thus range from wine and dishes to pair with it to a fruit whose cultivation and processing are the focus of a dedicated visit.
