Rehainviller offers a cultural and historical focus centered on Château d’Adoménil, as well as a way to explore the landscape via the Val de Meurthe – Le Fouxon walking trail. The trail draws attention to the surrounding heritage, wildlife and plant life, and landscapes. For planning your trip, this gives you a choice between architecture and local history and a stay with a greater focus on exploring the landscape.

Stay at Château d’Adoménil

Château d’Adoménil is a four-star hotel in a seven-hectare wooded park in Rehainviller. If you are considering this accommodation for your stay, it is advisable to check the hotel’s current information before booking.

History and heritage

The historic monument includes the façades and roofs of the main building and outbuildings, the chapel, the press house with its cellar and the press inside it, as well as the park and garden, including the garden folly and greenhouse. These features were listed by decree on 28 May 2015. The site encompasses residential architecture, the press house and its equipment, and the garden areas. Those interested in historic estates can thus view the building, its former use and its landscaped grounds as different aspects of Château d’Adoménil.

The Église de l’Assomption also offers a distinct perspective on the history of the area. It was rebuilt after 1918. The church contains an image of Christ created by Bagard in the 18th century. Two periods therefore meet here: the history of reconstruction after the First World War and a much older work of art. For a cultural and historical perspective, it is worth considering these periods separately.

Adoménil is mentioned as early as 1034. The sons of Folmar II of Lunéville gave Adoménil to the nuns they had installed at Saint-Rémy Abbey. After the Thirty Years’ War, the château and its farmstead were all that remained of Adoménil. Château d’Adoménil is said to have been built by Mathieu de la Haye from 1617 onward. When placing these events in time, it is important not to conflate the two dates: 1034 refers to the mention of Adoménil, while 1617 onward refers to the presumed start of construction of the château.

Hiking amid heritage and landscapes

The Val de Meurthe – Le Fouxon walking trail invites you to discover the surrounding heritage, wildlife and plant life, and landscapes. The distinction between the themes is useful when planning your trip: the château and the Église de l’Assomption focus on buildings and historical periods, while the walking trail also takes in nature and the landscape. This lets you decide whether to delve deeper into local history or focus more on the surrounding area. Six other marked walking trails are associated with the Club Vosgien “Air comme Rando” and the Communauté de Communes Meurthe, Mortagne, Moselle.
