Mont Felletin is 1,387 metres high and surrounded by forests. A large rocky outcrop on the mountain offers panoramic views of the Cance Valley, the RhĂ´ne Valley, the Alps, Mont Blanc, Mont Ventoux and the Monts du Pilat. Saint-Julien-Molhesabate thus combines a specific elevation with a sweeping landscape panorama. Visitors choosing a destination for its scenery will find named valleys and mountain landmarks in view here.

Walking Routes and Trails

There are two walks to choose from, with different durations. The “Petit tour du bourg” takes 1 hour and 15 minutes, starts at the church car park and includes a game booklet. “Au fil de l’eau” also starts at the church car park and is listed as taking 2 hours. The difference between the two durations is 45 minutes, making it possible to compare the time involved without inferring anything about difficulty. The game booklet is part of the “Petit tour du bourg.”

Beyond these walks, the GR 7 long-distance hiking trail passes through Saint-Julien-Molhesabate on its way from the Monts du Pilat to the Cévennes. For mountain biking, the Haut Pays du Velay FFC mountain biking area offers seven routes starting in four municipalities, including Saint-Julien-Molhesabate. This gives visitors a long-distance hiking trail and a mountain biking offer spread across several municipalities, alongside the two walks as distinct trail options. The 2026 Haut Pays du Velay tourism guide lists Route No. 61, “Le Grand Felletin,” as 40 km long and graded “difficult”; Saint-Julien-Molhesabate is also listed there. Alongside the walking times, distance and difficulty offer further points of comparison.

Agriculture and Local Crafts

Under the name “Les Perles Rouges des Monts du Velay,” strawberries, raspberries, redcurrants, blackcurrants, blackberries and blueberries are grown at an altitude of 1,100 metres. Visits to discover the farm are possible. If you are planning a visit, check the arrangements in advance; the fruit available may vary. The produce and farm visit offer a distinct travel experience alongside the mountain panorama and trails.

A description in the programme for the 2025 European Heritage Days mentions an old sawmill that was still operating at the time and powered exclusively by the force of the stream. The water channel could also be walked along. If you plan to visit, check the arrangements in advance.

Planning Your Visit

The Aire de Camping Car, a motorhome stop, offers views of the village from an altitude of 1,050 metres. Check the Aire’s availability before travelling. This provides another clear point of reference for planning: alongside the panorama from Mont Felletin, there is also a named viewpoint overlooking the village.
