The beach and harbour give a stay in Øster Hurup two distinct focal points. At the beach, the water is shallow and the waves are small, making it suitable for families. The northern section of the beach has kilometres of white sand. Parking and a modern toilet building are located close to the beach. At the SUP spot in Øster Hurup, the whole family can try stand-up paddleboarding at the harbour or on the calm sandy beach. The shallow water at the SUP spot allows beginners to test their balance on the board. Boards can be launched from the beach immediately north of the harbour. Parks and play facilities

Fruerlundparken offers a different focus from the beach and harbour. The 15-hectare grounds are well maintained and fenced, and include, among other things, two lakes. Activities such as Krolf and pétanque take place there every week. The lakes and weekly activities clearly distinguish the park from the town’s water-based activities.

Øster Hurup Legeland has a jungle area with a slide and climbing tunnels. For younger children, it offers playhouses and a road-themed play track. The age groups are therefore clear: the playhouses and track are aimed at younger children, while the slide and climbing tunnels are part of the jungle area.

For families, the options can be distinguished by the kind of activity they are looking for: shallow water and small waves at the beach, or playhouses, a track and a jungle area.

Harbour, marina and the Kattegat

The harbour is one of the town’s meeting places, where recreational sailors meet local fishermen. In summer, there is live music outdoors. Engbroen takes pedestrians from the area by the tourist office and public toilets, across the beach meadow, to Øster Hurup Marina, creating a new route to the harbour. The activities take place at different times: live music is available in summer, while Krolf and pétanque take place weekly at Fruerlundparken.

Views and architecture

A nine-metre-high tower in Øster Hurup offers views over the Kattegat, while Øster Hurup Church was built on the model of Sct. Peters Kirke in Randers. This offers two different points of interest for planning a trip: views across the water or a specific connection to church architecture.
