Thyborøn lies where the North Sea meets the Limfjord. Wide sandy beaches and dunes shape a stay by the water: you can relax on the beach and explore the dunes. Høfde 59 offers a view of the sea and the Thyborøn Canal. The coastal experience thus ranges from spending time on the sandy beach to making a dedicated visit to a viewpoint.
Coast, trails and views
Naturrum Thyborøn offers hiking trails of various lengths through scenic countryside. The different trail lengths give you flexibility when planning your time, without requiring you to commit to a specific walking duration. There is also a nature playground near the coast. A viewing platform offers a view of the town, the lagoon lakes and the wind turbines. Naturrum therefore brings together several aspects: trails through nature, a coastal spot and a sweeping view of the surrounding area.
Guided experiences on the water, beach and harbour
The guided activities offer a range of different experiences. A boat trip for a seal safari departs from Havnegade 5C and takes you close to the seals near the Limfjord outlet. The guided Amber Safari – Thyborøn is a beach experience offered all year round: visitors learn where, how and when they can find amber. Another tour goes around the harbour and through Thyborøn on the iconic tractor bus Spætten. The experiences thus differ in both setting and theme: boat and seals, beach and amber, or a ride through the harbour and town.
If you would like to try a water sport yourself, Surfcentret offers lessons in surfing, stand-up paddleboarding and sea kayaking. The activities are quite different, even though they all take place on the water. For boat trips, the amber safari, tractor-bus rides and lessons, it is advisable to check dates and availability before making plans.
Culture and remembrance in Thyborøn
The Sea War Museum Jutland focuses on the First World War in the North Sea, particularly the Battle of Jutland. Another way to reflect on the past is at Mindepark for Jyllandsslaget, a historic visitor site in the dunes near Thyborøn, with views of the North Sea. There are 26 large granite stones, each symbolising a sunken warship. 400 human figures symbolise the sailors who lost their lives. The numbers and forms give remembrance a tangible presence in the park.
Sneglehuset also stands out for its design: thousands of shells and large seashells cover it inside and out. Today, it is a small museum with an ice cream café, exhibitions and a shop; check current opening hours before visiting. Iskunsten is Europe's only year-round exhibition of ice sculptures. The exhibits may change.
Events, travel and accommodation
