Fjaltring offers a range of discoveries: the geological Bovbjerg profile, a several-hour walk to medieval churches and Høfde Q on the North Sea. Tuskær adds changing art exhibitions and vegetarian cuisine. When planning your trip, you can choose between landscape, coast, walking and culture as different focal points.

Bovbjerg Profile and Landscape

The Bovbjerg profile is a coastal cliff stretching 6 km along Jutland’s west coast, from Ferring in the north to Fjaltring in the south. The profile reveals a geological cross-section through the main line of the Weichselian glaciation. The cliff at Fjaltring contains the oldest deposit in the profile: meltwater clays attributed to the Elster glaciation. This means two geological references can be distinguished: the cross-section relates to the main line of the Weichselian glaciation, while the oldest deposit is assigned to the Elster glaciation. The landscape of Fjaltring also has its own designation. Most of the village lies on a hill island, called a “bakkeø” in Danish. Thus, the Bovbjerg profile refers to the coastal cliff, while “bakkeø” names the landscape form of most of Fjaltring.

Høfde Q and the Church Walk

Høfde Q is located in Fjaltring on the North Sea. It is a bathing beach and a meeting place for board surfers. Høfde Q also has a shelter site with a fire pit, intended mainly for cyclists and hikers.

The walk “De fire kirker ved Fjaltring” starts at Fjaltring Vandrerhjem and leads to four medieval churches by the sea. It is about 18 km long and takes 5 to 6 hours. This makes it a several-hour activity with a clear cultural and historical focus. Høfde Q offers a different focus: the beach and a meeting place for board surfers. When planning your day, you can choose between a church walk and spending time at the coastal location.

Tuskær: Art and Cuisine

The Tuskær Culinary Arts and Cultural Centre is located south of Fjaltring in a dune farmstead dating from 1864. It hosts changing special exhibitions by various artists. The kitchen serves vegetarian dishes and holds Denmark’s Gold Organic Label; the organic share is 90 to 100 percent. If you would like to include art and food in your trip, you will find two distinct themes at this named centre: changing exhibitions and a kitchen offering vegetarian food. This makes Tuskær a cultural and culinary focus in its own right, alongside the geological landscape and activities on the coast.

Exhibition at Tuskær Redningsstation

Tuskær Redningsstation has an exhibition about the rescue station and is located at Rubyvej 23, Fjaltring, 7620 Lemvig. If you plan to visit the exhibition, check current access arrangements in advance.
