Hørsholm brings together nature and culture, offering different ways to shape a trip: Folehave is known for its lush deciduous forest and Bronze Age traces, while Hørsholm Slotshave has preserved baroque lines and ancient lime trees. There is also a museum exploring local history, a versatile cultural centre and marked trails. When planning, you can therefore consider whether to focus on the landscape, history, cultural offerings or a particular trail length.

Forest, Woodlands and Bronze Age Traces

Folehave is one of North Zealand’s lushest deciduous forests. Small lakes and forest meadows provide numerous habitats for animals and plants; Folehave is also home to 59 Bronze Age burial mounds. This landscape brings together habitats and a specific archaeological trace from the Bronze Age.

The Arboretum in Hørsholm offers a different focus: it contains more than 2,000 species of trees and shrubs and is considered Denmark’s largest collection of its kind. Unlike Folehave, the focus here is on the diversity of a woody plant collection, while Folehave is characterised by its forest, lakes, meadows and burial mounds. When choosing nature-related activities, you can therefore distinguish between landscapes and archaeological traces on the one hand, and an extensive collection on the other.

Baroque Garden and Local History

Hørsholm Slotshave is a garden dating from the Baroque period. The lines of the former garden and lime trees more than 250 years old have been preserved. The Blixen Route runs through Slotshave: this signposted walking trail is 16 kilometres long. Signs along the route have QR codes that let you activate 17 audio stories on your mobile phone. Alongside its length, an audio offering is another specific feature of this route.

The Hørsholm Local History Museum explores the history of Hirschholm Slot, press freedom and a royal affair through exhibitions and creative activities for children. The building that now houses the museum dates from the 18th century and was originally an estate manager’s house on the Hirschholm Crown Estate. The museum’s themes therefore sit alongside the history of the building itself. Another specific date in Hørsholm’s history is 21 September 1823, when Hørsholm Church was inaugurated.

Cultural Offerings and Getting There

In the centre of Hørsholm, Kulturhus Trommen includes a library, a cinema, and theatre and concert halls. Bus routes 150S and 500S stop at Hørsholm Midtpunkt, about a two-minute walk from the cultural centre. If you plan to take either of these routes, it is a good idea to check the timetable before setting off.

Marked Trails and Other Activities

The Kløverstier in Hørsholm comprise four marked walking, running and cycling routes that start at the Kløverpæl in PH Park. They are 2.5, 5.3, 7.6 or 21 kilometres long. Compared directly with the 16-kilometre Blixen Route, three Kløverstier options are shorter and one is longer. If you are choosing based on distance, you can compare several shorter options with a longer route. Hørsholm Golf, with its 27-hole course, is another activity in its own right.
