Four Clover Trail routes give you a concrete framework for planning in Brøndbyøster: their lengths vary, but they all start and end at the same point. The old village layout, the church and the cemetery offer historical points of interest, while events and art add to the programme at Kulturhuset Kilden. This lets you consider walking, local history and culture as different focuses for your stay.
Compare the Clover Trails by length and activity
Brøndbyøster has four Clover Trail routes of varying lengths, from about 2 km to 14 km. They are walking and cycling routes that connect recreational areas with meeting places. The range gives you a concrete way to compare distances when deciding how much ground to cover in your day.
All four routes start and end at the Clover Trail post by Brøndbyøster Station. They therefore share the same start and end point, while their lengths vary. You can choose first by your preferred mode of transport and distance. The recreational areas and meeting places connected by the routes provide a common framework for all the trails.
Village layout and history
Archaeological excavations show that the settlement in Brøndbyøster has been in the same place since at least the 12th century. The old village street layout has also been preserved, although Park Allé cuts through it. These two features tell the story of Brøndbyøster’s development in different ways: the settlement remained in the same place, while the historic street layout has been interrupted.
Brøndbyøster Church adds a sequence of specific building phases to the local history. It was probably built around 1150; its tower was added between 1450 and 1550. The pulpit and altar table are considered its oldest furnishings and probably date from the late 16th century. The original construction, tower and furnishings therefore belong to different historical periods.
Brøndbyøster’s old cemetery is also protected. Several old grave monuments are protected as well, and each tells something about the history of the local community. The church and cemetery thus add further historical points of reference to the preserved village layout.
Culture and art at Kulturhuset Kilden
Talks, children’s theatre and concerts are held at Kulturhuset Kilden. The programme includes a variety of formats, from talks to stage and music events. A large painting by Henry Heerup is also currently on display there. In front of Kulturhuset stands Claes Lorentzen’s sculpture “Gående klovn”.
The exhibition “Da Svensken plyndrede Brøndbyøster” offers another perspective on local history. It uses ten pavement stickers in Brøndbyøster to tell stories from the Swedish Wars. The exhibition adds a distinct subject to the traces of village history, using the pavement stickers as its storytelling medium.
Plan your stay
For planning an overnight stay, the routes offer a different basis for comparison than the historical and cultural attractions: with the Clover Trails, you can choose by length and activity, while village history and Kilden are more likely to appeal according to your interests. If you are looking for a holiday rental, this distinction can help you tailor your stay to the programme you actually have in mind.
