More than 60 percent of Albertslund Municipality is covered by forest and green spaces. Nature is therefore a distinctive starting point for planning a trip. There are other options too: trails through forests and marshland, mountain biking, activities at the nature center, and the giant sculpture “Thomas På Bjerget,” made from recycled wood.

Forest and landscape

Most of Vestskoven, Denmark’s largest new forest, lies in Albertslund. Store Vejleådalen stretches across four municipalities: Albertslund, Høje-Taastrup, Ishøj and Vallensbæk. The valley area includes forests, parks, grazing land, marshes and wilder areas. The two names refer to different spatial scales: Vestskoven is a specific forest, while Store Vejleådalen is a landscape area encompassing several municipalities and landscape types.

Trails, mountain biking and getting there

The 5 km Kringelstien runs through wooded terrain, past marshes and hills; it is suitable for wheelchair users. Its stated length, route and accessibility provide specific points of reference when choosing a trail. You can go mountain biking in Hyldager Bakker. These offer two different ways to get active: a route with a specified length of 5 km and mountain biking in a named area.

You can reach Vestskoven from Albertslund Station by bus 149. After getting off at the Fabriksparken/Formervang stop, it is about a ten-minute walk along Herstedøstervej. As transport details can change, check the connection again before you travel.

Kringelstien is a 5 km route; the roughly ten minutes, by contrast, refers only to the walk from the Fabriksparken/Formervang stop along Herstedøstervej. This makes it easy to distinguish the route’s length from access to Vestskoven.

Nature center and culture

At Naturcenter Herstedhøje, visitors can cook over an open fire and study animals in the pond. Activities range from hands-on cooking over a fire to observing pond animals.

“Thomas På Bjerget” is one of Thomas Dambo’s six giant sculptures. It was built from recycled wood and created in connection with Vestegnens Kulturuge 2016. Its place among the six sculptures, the recycled wood and its connection with Kulturuge 2016 give the work several cultural points of interest.

The grounds of Vikingelandsbyen are open every day of the week, year-round; check visitor information again before you travel.

Choose accommodation based on your travel interests

When choosing a hotel, it may help to first decide what kind of trip you want: are you most interested in landscapes and trails, mountain biking, or nature and culture? This gives your search for accommodation in Albertslund Municipality a practical connection to the activities you actually plan to do. If you want to combine several interests, you can choose one as your main reason for visiting and consider the others as additional travel ideas.
