Vysoké Pole offers a variety of discoveries: Klášťov is associated with archaeology, the Vysocká Chapel with pilgrimage history, and the PRO KRAJINU Envicentre with traditional land management and a connection to nature. There are also two routes on the “Kočárková stezka.” They run along paved paths and are suitable for strollers. When planning your visit, it is helpful to keep the different routes and destinations in mind.
Klášťov: Hillfort and History
The Klášťov hillfort site was first built sometime between about 900 and 750 BC, at the transition from the Late Bronze Age to the Early Iron Age. Klášťov is a prehistoric and early medieval fortified settlement and the highest hillfort of its kind in Moravia. The remains of the hillfort are located within the municipality of Vysoké Pole at an elevation of 753 metres. Klášťov is also the highest peak in the Vizovice Highlands in the Zlín Region.
Iron deposits, as well as agricultural and craft tools, were discovered at Klášťov. These finds are associated with its interpretation as a cult centre of the ancient Slavs. Several archaeological themes therefore come together at this site: the long history of the fortified settlement and the interpretation of the objects discovered there.
Routes to Ploština and the Chapel
The “Over Klášťov to the Ploština Memorial” route starts in the centre of Vysoké Pole and offers views of the White Carpathians. The “Kočárková stezka” adds two more routes to the selection, both of which also start in the village centre. You can leave your car there. Both routes run along paved paths and are suitable for strollers.
The two routes have different destinations: one leads to the national cultural heritage site at the location of the burned-down settlement of Ploština, while the other leads to the Vysocká Chapel of the Virgin Mary and its spring. When choosing a route, you can therefore opt for either a destination connected with the history of the settlement of Ploština or the pilgrimage site and its spring.
Vysocká Pilgrimage Chapel
The pilgrimage chapel of the Virgin Mary, known as “Vysocká,” was built in 1748 near a spring whose water is believed to have healing properties. The present-day chapel was consecrated on 5 June 1876. It can be reached from Valašské Klobouky railway station via Mirošov, Drnovice and Vysoké Pole along a 12-kilometre walking route. The station is on line 283. If you plan to walk this route, check the local trail markings before your trip.
Envicentre and Observation Tower
The PRO KRAJINU Envicentre Vysoké Pole is an environmental centre that organises educational and informational events. Its focus is on preserving traditional land-management practices in the region. Visitors can spend time with farm animals and walk through the countryside. The centre thus offers both an insight into regional land-management traditions and two different activities during your visit.
Another landmark is the Vysoké Pole observation tower. The 15-metre-high structure is made of larch beams on a concrete base and can be reached on foot directly from Vysoké Pole. Its height and construction provide a tangible architectural point of interest, while Klášťov is shaped above all by its archaeological history.
