Drzkova brings together striking rock formations and hiking trails with insights into local craft history. From Přední Skaly, you can look out over Držková and its valley; in the village centre, a museum preserves records of life and work in the past. There is also a chapel, historic wooden architecture and the tradition of the Končiny masked processions.

Hiking trails and finding your way

The Držkovské chodníčky nature trail is located in Držková in the Hostýnské vrchy. Its longest route is 21.6 kilometres long. You can join the trail at any point; information boards help you find your way. This means you are not restricted to a single starting point. Check the marked route locally before setting off.

A red-marked hiking trail passes through Držková and continues towards Tesák and Rajnochovice. A blue-marked trail starts in the village and heads towards Kopná and Baťková. U Třech kamenů is a well-known trail junction at an altitude of 735 metres; marked trails lead from there to Tesák, Troják and Hostýn. Three sandstone boundary stones can also still be seen at U Třech kamenů.

Cycle routes also provide access in different directions: Cycle Route 5038 leads from Držková over gentler terrain to Rusava and onwards to Hostýn. Cycle Route 6124 passes through the Májová district towards Vsetín, while Cycle Route 6123 connects Držková with Hošťálková. Check the route locally before setting off.

Rocks, forest and views

Přední Skaly rise above Držková, offering views of the village and its valley from their summits. The rock formations consist of sandstone and conglomerate and were designated a natural monument in 1987. They are used by climbers of all experience levels.

The entire cadastral area of Držková lies within the Hostýnské vrchy Nature Park. The northern part is also within the Hostýnské vrchy bird protection area. Holíkova rezervace, about one kilometre north of Držková and within the cadastral area, contains mixed forests dominated by beech. It also features sandstone outcrops and the Zadní skály rock formations.

Thirteen maintained springs are scattered across the cadastral area. One of them is Frdlantka: it rises in a wooden trough beside the old Slovákova dřevěnice in Košařiska. From Vančica, the view extends to Troják and the Kotáry.

Crafts and architectural history

The Muzeum dřevěného porculánu in the centre of Držková preserves about 450 exhibits. They offer a glimpse into life in Držková and Valašsko in the past and document the domestic production of wooden tools and utensils. The museum is open year-round; visits must be arranged in advance by phone or email.

Also in the village centre is the Kaple svatého Václava, completed and consecrated on 31 August 1930. Čihařova chalupa is the only listed building in Držková. In 1981, it was dismantled in Jasenná and rebuilt in Ráztoky in Držková. Its journey from one place to another is itself part of the village’s architectural history.

Končiny: a tradition with a variable date

The old tradition of Končiny masked processions with a bear-leader was revived in Držková by firefighters in the 1990s. The date of Končiny – vodění medvěda is not fixed, but is calculated in relation to Easter. The procession includes ten to twenty masked characters and travels through Držková’s scattered homesteads and cleared areas. If you would like to plan your trip around it, take the movable date into account when planning.
