A church with roots in the 13th century, a museum with a five-minute virtual reality experience and routes offering views of the White Carpathians reveal different sides of Slavičín. Visitors choosing the town for a stay can explore its cultural history, cycling routes and natural attractions as distinct focal points.

Church, Museum and Remembrance

The Church of St. Adalbert and St. Cecilia is the oldest building in Slavičín and dates from the 13th century. It was completely rebuilt in the Baroque style in 1897. Its history thus encompasses its medieval origins and a major renovation in the 19th century.

The Slavičín Town Museum presents the aerial battle over the White Carpathians on 29 August 1944 in a five-minute virtual reality experience. It also displays archaeological finds from the Slavičínsko region, dating from the Stone Age to the Middle Ages. One exhibition explores zvěroklestičství, the animal castration trade typical of the region.

The cemetery surrounding the church contains the grave of 28 American airmen who died in the aerial battle and were buried there on 31 August 1944. Wichterle Castle has been listed as an immovable cultural monument since 1964.

Cycling Routes and a Circular Trail

The Slavex Trails offer four routes: they are either natural or lightly shaped like bike-park trails, and together they are more than 3.5 kilometres long. Seasonal activities include cycling courses led by instructors and holiday camps for children.

Cycling route 5238 connects Slavičín and Luhačovice and offers views of Slavičín against the backdrop of the White Carpathian peaks. As route conditions can change seasonally, it is advisable to check the latest conditions before setting out.

The moderately difficult circular route “From Slavičín to Petrůvka” is 15 kilometres long. It leads from the centre of Slavičín via Pivečkův lesopark to the viewpoints above Petrůvka and back, offering views of the White Carpathians along the way. Check current trail conditions before setting out, as they may change.

Viewpoint, Forest Park and Outdoor Pool

Vyhlídka sv. Kryštofa is a viewpoint whose design is inspired by the forms of Gothic cathedrals, stained glass and the play of light. From here, you can see across the Slavičín landscape, including the Church of St. Adalbert and St. Cecilia and the chapel in Hrádek.

Pivečkův lesopark is freely accessible. The park features a pond, a playground, dozens of wooden sculptures and a large natural amphitheatre. It was established in 1936 as a recreation area for the residents of Slavičín, particularly the employees of the Piveček family’s shoe factory. Its origins connect the park with the town’s history and its original recreational purpose.

Slavičín’s municipal outdoor pool is set in wooded surroundings near the castle park, sports stadium and ponds. It is usually open from June to September and has a beach volleyball court for visitors. As the seasonal opening dates and booking conditions may change, check the latest dates and conditions before visiting.

Choose Accommodation Based on Your Travel Interests

If you are looking for accommodation in Slavičín, you can first decide what you want to focus on during your stay: cultural history, cycling, the forest park or the seasonal outdoor pool will each shape your daily plans differently. Plan around the activities that matter to you and take account of the relevant trail and pool conditions.
