Slušovice lies in the Dřevnice River valley at the foot of the Hostýn Hills and offers several distinct travel themes: architectural and cultural history, horse racing, golf and cycling. Local highlights have their own points of reference, from a dated church building to a recurring race day and a cycling route through the town. You can plan your stay around what interests you most.

Church and Cultural Monuments

The parish church of the Nativity of St John the Baptist in Slušovice was built between 1812 and 1815. Its roof spaces are designated as a site of European importance because they host a summer colony of greater mouse-eared bats. The church thus brings together architectural history and a natural history interest.

Two cultural monuments also give the town’s history specific dates. The cross by the church is listed as an immovable cultural monument in the Zlín Region and dates from 1817. The stone statue of St John of Nepomuk is also listed as an immovable cultural monument; it dates from 1731. The statue is therefore older than the parish church, while the cross was erected shortly after the church was built.

Racetrack and Golf

The Slušovice racetrack complex was built in 1981 for flat and obstacle races. The Slušovice racetrack is the only racetrack in the Czech Republic with banked turns.

The Velká slušovická steeplechase is regularly held on 28 October as a 5,200-metre obstacle race. If you would like to plan your trip around this race, check the specific event date in advance.

The nearest bus stop to the racetrack is called Výpočetní středisko. Parking at the racetrack is free.

The Derby Golf Club Slušovice golf course is located within the racetrack complex. It is flat and has nine holes. The course is open to the public and all players, including beginners without a handicap. Horse racing and golf are therefore two different activities at the same venue; the course’s layout and open access are both clearly specified.

Cycling Route and Trip Planning

The 27-kilometre cycling route 5036 passes through Slušovice and ends in Dešná, where it joins long-distance cycling route 46. Its length, route through the town and endpoint give cyclists specific reference points for planning their trip.

The activities also differ in what you can base your trip planning on: for the steeplechase, it is the type of race and the event date; for golf, the nine holes and flat terrain; and for cycling, the route length and the connection in Dešná. If you would like to decide on a date first, the race is a natural planning consideration; for a cycling tour, the route and endpoint are useful reference points.
