Březnice brings together an old parish church, a distinctive hilly landscape and several memorial sites. The village is also an interesting place to look for a holiday apartment if you want to combine culture, nature and outdoor activities in one stay. The attractions offer different experiences: one educational trail runs through the village, while another forest trail leads to a bunker in the surrounding area.

Church and Local History

The parish Church of St Bartholomew the Apostle is located in Březnice and is a protected monument with a Late Gothic core. It is considered one of the oldest churches in Moravia; the first written records about it date from 1437. The village’s heritage also includes house No. 21 in Březnice, which, together with its sheds and barn, has been designated a monument protection zone. The church and the house thus offer different insights into the village’s historic buildings.

Hills and Nature

Březnice lies in the valley of the Březnice stream, below the western peaks of the Vizovice Highlands. Meadows and mixed forests cover much of the municipal area; the terrain is hilly, with almost no flat areas. The Březnice stream rises in the municipality and has two officially recognised sources. The European protected area “Březnice u Zlína” is nearby: a meadow spring on the right bank of an unnamed right tributary of the Březnice. The area is part of the Natura 2000 network and protects the snail species “vrkoč útlý”.

Memorial Sites on Kříby

Two memorial trees in the Kříby area of Březnice’s cadastral territory have been officially designated: the memorial pear tree “Hrušeň u Slováčků” on 29 January 2016 and the memorial service tree “Oskeruše u Janečků” on 18 July 2022. A resistance memorial was also erected on Kříby in 1955, commemorating the tragedy of the people of Březnice. The Peace Mound in Březnice on Kříby commemorates the victims of the Second World War and offers a viewpoint overlooking the surrounding landscape.

Educational Trails and Outdoor Activities

The outdoor educational trail runs through the village. There are ten questions along the route, and their answers form a riddle at the end. Nearby, a forest educational trail leads to a bunker used by the anti-fascist resistance. The bunker is in the municipal forest in the cadastral territory of Bohuslavice u Zlína; the trail provides access to it. This offers two different options: a walk with a riddle to solve and a route through the forest to a memorial site.

In the Filip district, the sports and cultural complex includes a multipurpose court with a synthetic surface. The court is intended for tennis, volleyball, basketball and small-sided football; the complex also has a children’s playground. These facilities complement the walking routes and cultural sites with opportunities for sport in the village.

Getting There and Further Information

Březnice has good bus connections, including at weekends. The village is on routes from Zlín to Uherské Hradiště, Uherský Brod and Luhačovice, as well as long-distance routes to Slovakia. There is also a dedicated Zlín–Březnice route, operated by ČSAD Vsetín. If you are travelling by bus, check the current timetable before departure.

At the site of the former “Březnický horní (Řihoškův) mlýn” mill, the former collection basin has been landscaped as a park. It complements the historical and natural attractions that Březnice offers visitors.
