Zubří offers two clearly distinct themes for a stay: architectural and local history on the one hand, and walking and hiking options on the other. Cultural highlights include the listed church “Kostel sv. Kateřiny” and the Muzeum Zubří. For outdoor activities, you can explore the area around two ponds, follow an educational trail or take a yellow-marked hiking route. If you are looking for a hotel, you can start by considering which of these themes you would like to shape your stay.

Church and Museum

The church “Kostel sv. Kateřiny” has been a listed monument since 3 May 1958 and is a building from the Josephine era. The listing date and the construction period therefore refer to two different historical points of reference. Its three-aisled floor plan is unique in the Okres Vsetín; it also has built-in galleries. Three-aisled means that the church interior is divided into three aisles; the galleries complement the interior architecture.

The permanent exhibition of the Muzeum Zubří has been housed since 2016 in the publicly accessible depot at Hlavní ulice 824. It presents the history of Zubří and sought-after works by embroiderers from Zubří. The museum also displays a remarkably extensive archaeological and mineralogical collection. Every year, it prepares several one-off exhibitions featuring museum collections, local historical events, and works by artists and craftspeople from the region. These special exhibitions change, so check the current dates before your visit. You should also check the visiting arrangements for the permanent exhibition in advance.

Ponds and Hiking Trails

The area around Velký hamerský rybník (5 ha) and Malý hamerský rybník (3.5 ha) offers opportunities for walks. The Hamerské rybníky are also the only surviving remnants of Zubří’s former ironworks. A walk in this area can therefore also connect you with a distinctive part of the town’s history.

The “Co pamatují zubři v Zubří” educational trail is about 7 kilometres long and has 9 stops. Unlike the walking options around the ponds, it has an approximate length and a fixed number of stops, offering a different way to choose a route. From Zubří, you can join a route via a yellow-marked hiking trail that crosses the scenic ridges of the Veřovické vrchy. Check the condition of the educational trail locally, as well as the trail markings, before setting off.

Choose Your Focus

The two cultural attractions are just as clearly distinct as the routes: the church represents an architectural focus as a single historic building, while the museum combines local history with crafts, archaeology and mineralogy, as well as changing exhibitions. For walking, there are options around the ponds as well as a named route with a stated length and number of stops.
