Střítež nad Bečvou lies in the valley of the Rožnovská Bečva, on the river’s left bank and at the foot of the slopes of the Vsetínské vrchy. There are several themes to choose from when planning a trip: the Protestant church and its architecture and local history, the Rákosina wetland, and marked cycling routes. Which one you focus on depends on whether you are more interested in local architectural history, nature conservation or routes for a bike ride.

Protestant Church and Local History

The Protestant church was built for a congregation of the Helvetic Confession between 1868 and 1876. It is a detached, three-aisled, pseudo-style church with a polygonal apse. Three-aisled describes its division into three naves; the polygonal apse forms the many-sided end of the building. In 1993, the church was declared an immovable cultural monument. It is listed in the Central Register of Cultural Monuments of the Czech Republic under registration number 10421.

A small park lies in front of the church. It is home to a statue of T. G. Masaryk, installed in its current form in 1990; there is also a monument to the victims of the First World War in the park. The statue and the war memorial add two distinct commemorative elements to the architecture.

The organ is also a point of interest in its own right: in 2004, the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic declared the instrument a cultural monument. Historically, Střítež was known for making woollen lumberjack gloves, basket weaving and weaving reed mats. These craft traditions broaden the picture of local history beyond church construction and heritage conservation.

Landscape and the Rákosina Wetland

Some of the farmsteads in Střítež are scattered across the Paseky meadows between the forests of the Beskydy Protected Landscape Area. Rákosina was declared a natural monument in 1993 to protect wildlife, particularly endangered amphibian species. The wetland covers 17,582 square metres and lies at an elevation of 339 to 341 metres. The area includes reed beds, grassy embankments and about ten wetland pools. Both protection designations date from 1993, but they focus on different things: the church designation concerns the building, while Rákosina’s focuses on the wetland and, in particular, the protection of endangered amphibians.

Cycling and Walks

The cycling destinations offer different options for getting around: a marked route leads from Střítež towards the Bystřička reservoir, where several marked hiking and cycling routes connect. A shared pedestrian and cycle path, completed in mid-2023, connects Střítež nad Bečvou with the existing Cyklostezka Bečva and road I/35. The route to Bystřička leads to further marked paths, while the shared path connects to the Cyklostezka Bečva and I/35. Check local conditions before setting out.

For a walk, the pond and its well-kept surroundings offer a different kind of appeal: they are a popular destination for walks among residents and visitors to Střítež.
