Pržno lies in the valley of the Vsetínská Bečva. Two churches with Catholic and Protestant traditions, a memorial lime tree at least 300 years old and several cycling routes give the village a distinct character. Its history spans an originally Gothic church dating from 1525 and a Protestant congregation that has preserved a sung Lutheran liturgical tradition. At the same time, cycling routes pass through Pržno or meet another route there at a junction. Cultural history and route planning thus offer two different perspectives.

Churches and Religious Traditions

The Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary is the centre of the Roman Catholic parish in Pržno. The cornerstone of the present-day church was laid in 1886, and construction was completed in October 1889. It was built on the site of a demolished, originally Gothic church dating from 1525. These dates place the present-day building within the longer history of the church site: the older church was followed in the late 19th century by the place of worship that still stands today.

The Protestant church in Pržno is neo-Gothic; its cornerstone was laid on 5 July 1866. The building still serves its original purpose today. The congregation in Pržno is one of five congregations in the Czech Republic that preserve a sung Lutheran liturgical tradition. Its earlier history includes a small wooden prayer house, built in 1783 and used until 1866. Its closure and the laying of the Protestant church's cornerstone both took place in 1866. The dates mark different buildings and historical milestones.

Memorial Lime Tree and Traditional Crafts

A memorial lime tree at least 300 years old stands in the village square in front of the Catholic church. Its location connects a long natural history with one of the village's most prominent religious sites. For travellers interested in local history, different periods come together here: the churches' predecessor buildings, the Protestant church still in use today, and a tree at least three centuries old.

Traditional crafts are also part of Pržno's history. Towards the end of the 20th century, some residents made baskets from willow rods. Křiváky knives were also still made at home, along with wooden tools. This look at traditional crafts complements the architectural and religious history with everyday activities in the community.

Cycling Routes with Different Points of Reference

The Vsetínská Bečva cycling route runs from Velké Karlovice to Valašské Meziříčí, passing through Pržno and other villages. Most of the route follows a cycle path with no car traffic. Cycling route 6118 offers different specific points of reference: it is 52 kilometres long, of moderate difficulty and suitable for mountain bikes. When comparing routes, you can therefore weigh up the mostly traffic-free cycle path along the Vsetínská Bečva against the length and difficulty details for route 6118.

The Gurmánská trasa also descends to Pržno, then follows the Vsetínská Bečva through Jarcová to Valašské Meziříčí. On the Rozhledna-Maruška cycling route, after eight kilometres the route reaches a junction in Pržno and turns there onto cycling route 6118 towards Prženské paseky. The two descriptions answer different questions: the Gurmánská trasa gives the direction and places along the way, while the Rozhledna-Maruška route identifies a turn onto route 6118.
