In Halenkov, marked trails leading to the mountain ridges of the Javorníky and Vsetínské vrchy meet a history of bentwood furniture manufacturing. This gives the area two clear starting points for planning a trip: getting active on marked routes and exploring the cultural history of the Thonet family. The Bečva cycle path, which runs through Halenkov, and a nature trail connecting the village with Lazy pod Makytou on the Slovak side of the Javorníky add to the choice.

Hiking trails and cycle route

From Halenkov, marked routes lead to the ridge of the Javorníky on foot, by bike or on cross-country skis. Other marked routes pass via Vsacký Cáb to the ridge of the Vsetínské vrchy; Vsacký Cáb is listed at an elevation of 841 metres. This gives you a specific reference point when choosing a route.

A section of the 44-kilometre Bečva cycle path from Vsetín to Velké Karlovice also runs through Halenkov. Inline skaters use this section too. The 44 kilometres refer to the entire route between the two towns, not just the section through Halenkov. This makes it easy to distinguish the cycle path, which links named destinations, from the marked routes to the mountain ridges.

The nature trail through Halenkov

The nature trail runs through all of Halenkov and connects the village with the neighbouring municipality of Lazy pod Makytou on the Slovak side of the Javorníky. At almost 30 kilometres long, with thirteen stops, it is an extensive route. The stops break up the long trail and give it a different character from a single hike to a mountain ridge.

The nature trail starts at the restored „Boží muka“ chapel in Dinotice. The section from Dinotice via the upper ponds in Provazné can be cycled. The description dated September 18, 2025, states that the nature trail is open to tourists and cyclists and suitable for a peaceful walk. If access is important to your plans, check current access arrangements before your visit.

Thonet history and architecture

The „Boží muka“ chapel in Dinotice is a place of worship. Hugo Thonet had it built in 1930; it is a lasting memorial to the Thonet family and to Halenkov’s history of bentwood furniture, which has made the village part of the history of global furniture design. In 1868, Michael Thonet founded a bentwood furniture factory in Halenkov. Chairs from the Halenkov branch of Gebrüder Thonet became a symbol of lightness, elegance and durability. The two dates belong to different chapters: 1868 marks Michael’s founding of the factory, while 1930 marks the chapel commissioned by Hugo.

The Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross is also part of a protected cemetery complex. This includes a tower, a mortuary, a perimeter wall with two gates and a niche chapel. The late Baroque church was built between 1786 and 1788 together with the rectory. Its single-nave layout with a transept, side chapels and an organ loft define the interior; outside, the building includes a five-storey west tower.

Valley views and landscape

The small valleys of Halenkov have largely retained the quiet, picturesque character of the Valašsko landscape. A wooden cross on Kyčerka, along the nature trail, offers a wide view over Valašsko and the Javorníky. The trail thus lets you combine the Thonet history in Dinotice with the viewpoint on Kyčerka.
