230 figures, including 75 that move: the mechanical Betlém Horní Lideč gives the town a distinctive cultural theme. Alongside it are a multimedia nature exhibition and two educational trails with different routes and focuses. This lets you tailor your stay to different interests: nativity scene art, nature and landscape conservation, or a specific route. If you are looking for accommodation in Horní Lideč, this focus can also shape your choice of travel dates.
Betlém Horní Lideč: Figures and Carved Buildings
The mechanical Betlém Horní Lideč features 230 figures, including 75 that move. The exhibition also includes more than 100 carved buildings depicting, among other things, notable places in the Zlín Region. Two different motifs come together here: the movement of the figures and carved representations of regional buildings. This combination makes the Betlém a distinctive cultural attraction without limiting the experience to the nativity scene figures alone.
Nature Exhibition Focused on Landscape Conservation
The Trezor přírody Horní Lideč complements this cultural focus with nature themes. The modern multimedia exhibition uses large-screen projection and showcases natural treasures from the four protected landscape areas “Bílé Karpaty,” “Biele Karpaty,” “Beskydy” and “slovenské Kysuce.” It is also interactive and explains in an entertaining way why landscapes are protected. Nature is therefore not just the subject of the displays; the reasons for protecting landscapes are also part of the exhibition. This offers a clear alternative to the Betlém’s focus on figures and buildings.
Two Educational Trails, Different Routes
When choosing an educational trail, you can consider its starting point, route and landscape. The Vařákovy paseky educational trail starts at the railway station in Horní Lideč and is 15 kilometers long. It follows yellow- and blue-marked paths through Lačnov and back to Lidečko. The route crosses hilly terrain with local climbs. Its length and terrain profile answer different planning questions: the 15 kilometers indicate the distance, while the climbs describe the character of the terrain.
The Pulčínská cesta also starts at Horní Lideč railway station and leads via the Pulčín trail junction to the information center in Pulčín. It crosses a hilly landscape with pastures and beautiful views, and focuses mainly on the Valašsko landscape. Both educational trails start at the railway station in Horní Lideč, but follow different waypoints: Vařákovy paseky goes through Lačnov and back to Lidečko, while Pulčínská cesta leads to the information center in Pulčín. Check local trail conditions before setting out; on Vařákovy paseky, also keep an eye on the trail markers.
Year-Round Visits and an Annual Event
The calendar offers two different points of reference. The Betlém operates year-round and can be visited throughout the year. Since opening arrangements can change, check the latest visitor information before traveling. The pilgrimage in Horní Lideč takes place every year on September 28. If you want to travel specifically for this event, check the latest event details. For broad planning purposes, an exhibition that can be visited year-round is therefore contrasted with an annual fixed date.
