In Střílky, Baroque architecture and hiking offer distinct options for your stay. The Baroque cemetery and the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary have seasonal visiting hours; for hiking, there is a marked educational trail and a named route. Opening hours, the number of stations and trail lengths give you specific information to help plan your visit.
Baroque Heritage and Seasonal Visiting Hours
The Baroque cemetery and the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary are open to the public daily from May 1 to September 30, except Mondays, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Changes to the official schedule are possible at both sites, so check visiting hours before your visit.
The cemetery is one of the notable Baroque monuments. It was built between 1730 and 1743 by Antonín Amand Petřvaldský z Petřvaldu, the former owner of the Střílky and Tovačov estates. The church houses an original organ from 1771, made by organ builder František Sieber. It also contains two valuable paintings by the painter and Jesuit Ignác Raab from Velehrad. This historical focus therefore encompasses both the cemetery’s architectural history and the church’s surviving furnishings.
Comparing the Educational Trail and Hiking Route
The marked educational trail “Příroda a okolí Střílek” has eleven stations and is about 6.5 kilometres long. The hiking route “Dobrodružné Chřiby ze Střílek na Komárec” is about 6 to 8 kilometres long. The stated distances are of a similar scale; a clear difference is that the educational trail has stations, while Komárec is named as the route’s destination. You can therefore base your choice more on these features than on any major difference in trail length.
Natural features covered by the educational trail include a spring emerging from the rock and flysch sandstone formations. One feature along the trail is also designated a protected natural monument. The ruins of Střílecký Castle provide another historical point of interest: they are the remains of an early Gothic castle built in the second half of the 13th century. Stone sections of the walls have survived.
Visiting the Chateau and Getting There
A visit to Střílky Chateau is possible by prior telephone arrangement at 573 375 113. Unless an international workshop is taking place, the park and chateau courtyard can be visited on a guided tour. This makes visiting the chateau different from the cemetery and church, which have fixed seasonal visiting hours: be sure to factor in the need to arrange your visit in advance and the workshop condition.
