Ten stops along a 2.5-kilometre educational trail and an 11-kilometre circular route offer two different ways to explore Kvasice on foot. There is also a Renaissance castle in a park, a local museum, and churches with their own artistic and architectural histories. The route lengths give you a concrete basis for comparison; the historic sites offer another focus for planning your stay.
Castle History and Park
The transformation of Kvasický zámek from a castle into a chateau began in the last quarter of the 16th century. The Renaissance chateau is distinguished by multi-storey arcaded walkways and a tower above the new passageway. It is set in a park in the heart of Kvasice. The chateau can usually be viewed from the chateau park, which is open year-round.
The architecture and the trails offer different ways of experiencing the town: the chateau focuses on architectural history, while the educational trail leads to other historic sites. You can plan your stay around a short trail or a longer loop, without having to follow a set order for sightseeing.
Marked Trails Around Kvasice
The Stezka po stopách historie Kvasic (Trail in the Footsteps of Kvasice’s History) opened in 2023. The green-marked educational trail is 2.5 kilometres long and has ten stops. It starts at náměstà Antoše Dohnala, by the old town hall. The red-marked “Kolem Kvasic” loop is considerably longer, at 11 kilometres, and includes a walk through the chateau park. The two routes therefore differ clearly in length, and the loop also takes in the chateau park.
Kvasice is also one of the towns connected by the local Stezky severnĂmi ChĹ™iby trail network. Most routes in the network are suitable not only for hiking but also for mountain biking, running, or Nordic walking. This does not apply to every route; weather and trail maintenance can affect suitability. As trail markings can change, it is a good idea to check the current route before setting out.
Museum and Church Art
The Kvasické muzeum (Kvasice Museum) is located in two rooms on the ground floor of the Kvasice Municipal Office. Its exhibition topics include the traditional costumes of a Haná family, the activities of local associations, amateur and puppet theatre, and the town’s churches and chapels. Exhibition topics can change, and visiting arrangements may vary. Check what to expect at the museum and when it is open before your visit.
The nave of HĹ™bitovnĂ kostel NanebevzetĂ Panny Marie (Cemetery Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary) was originally built in the Romanesque or pre-Romanesque style. Inside, Renaissance frescoes of Saint Wenceslas and Saint George have been preserved, along with a two-part cycle depicting the martyrdom of Saint Catherine of Alexandria. The late Baroque church “FarnĂ kostel Ĺ™Ămskokatolický” (Roman Catholic Parish Church) is dedicated to the Assumption of Mary and Saint John of Nepomuk. The main altar features a painting by Václav VavĹ™inec Reiner; Ignác Viktorin Raab also contributed to the pictorial decoration. If you would like to see the works of art inside, check the churches’ visiting arrangements in advance.
The KĹ™ĂĹľová cesta in Kvasice (Stations of the Cross) is also a distinctive part of the town’s cultural landscape: it is designated a cultural monument of the Czech Republic. Together with the town’s diverse church architecture, it offers another perspective on local history.
