Zahnašovice offers a variety of highlights for a stay: nature by the pond and in the grove, architectural history around the church, and local festivals. You can tailor your visit to the landscape, culture or a specific event date.
Pond, Shoreline and Nature
Medřický Pond covers 3,330 square metres. Its shoreline provides a habitat for protected amphibians such as frogs and newts. The pond is also a pleasant place for a walk or to sit on one of the benches. If you plan to make use of these facilities, check access and seating on site. Converted, the area is around 0.33 hectares; the second unit helps put the size into perspective.
The Zahnašovice grove is one of the municipality’s natural attractions. From Zahnašovice, you can also enjoy views of the Hostýnské vrchy; how clearly they can be seen depends on visibility. Alongside the shoreline habitat, you can choose between two other nature highlights: the grove and the view.
A GPX track is available to download for a walk through Zahnašovice. If you would like to plan your walk digitally, you can use the track; check in advance that the download is available. It shows the walk as a digital route.
Church and Memorials
The church in Zahnašovice was built in 1938. It is a rectangular building with a decorated façade, a four-sided clock tower and a slender, four-sided pyramidal roof. A large mosaic of the Visitation of the Virgin Mary is on the wall behind the altar. The exterior and the mosaic offer two different features to look at. If you would like to see the mosaic, check access on site.
A stone statue of the Virgin Mary with the Christ Child, dating from 1894, stands by the church. The dates are 44 years apart: 1894 refers to the statue, and 1938 to the construction of the church.
A memorial plaque in the entrance area of the municipal office commemorates the soldiers who fell in the First World War. While the church is defined by its architecture and religious motifs, the plaque focuses on remembrance of the fallen.
Festivals and Choosing a Date
The Kácení máje festival was held in Zahnašovice in 2021, 2022, 2023 and 2026; Vodění medvěda took place in 2020, 2023 and 2026. The two festivals share the years 2023 and 2026, while the other years they were held differ. If you would like to plan your trip around one of the festivals, check future dates in advance.
