A wayside chapel beneath a broad-limbed lime tree, memorials from two world wars and a former windmill give Bořenovice a range of historical points of interest. Cyclists can also include the village in their plans: a paved farm track runs through the village, alongside a microregional cycling circuit that passes through several villages. A stay here therefore combines local history with a choice of specific routes.

Chapels and Wayside Shrines

The Kaplička pod lípou – Boží muka wayside shrine stands on the road between Holešov and Bořenovice, closer to Bořenovice. The small shrine is located beneath a broad-limbed lime tree and was probably built in the mid-18th century. Another chapel on the road between the two villages stands closer to Holešov; it was built around 1874. Their locations and construction dates are useful clues for distinguishing between the two religious buildings.

The Baroque chapel of the Šinkyřík family stands on the road to Pacetluky. It was built in 1885 and is dedicated to the Nativity of the Virgin Mary. In the past, the people of Bořenovice set out from this chapel in prayer on a pilgrimage to Svatý Hostýn. The building’s history thus includes a traditional pilgrimage: the chapel is not only a structure with a particular architectural style and date, but also the starting point of this historic procession.

Memorial Sites and the Village Bell Tower

The stone statue of Panna Maria Svatohostýnská stands on the right-hand side of the exit towards Pacetluky. Created in 1946, it commemorates the end of the Second World War and gives thanks that Bořenovice suffered no wartime fatalities. At the entrance to the village from the direction of Holešov stands a cross memorial to the soldiers who fell in the First World War. It was erected on 1 September 1922 and commemorates seven fallen soldiers from Bořenovice. The two memorials thus refer to different wars: the statue is associated with the end of the war and gratitude, while the cross commemorates local residents who fell in battle.

The Bořenovská zvonice was declared a cultural monument in 2010. It was probably built during the reign of Maria Theresa and historically served both as a warning signal and to call people to prayer. It is also one of the oldest surviving village bell towers in the Zlín Region. Its probable date of construction and documented functions give this landmark a different historical significance from the roadside memorials.

Windmill History and Cycling Routes

The Bořenovský windmill was built in Bořenovice in 1795 and stood east of the village until 1976. The wooden German-style windmill, brought here from nearby Bořenovice, is now located at the Rymice Open-Air Museum. The building’s history can therefore be traced across two locations: its former site was east of Bořenovice, while the relocated mill is at the open-air museum in Rymice.

A paved farm track runs through Bořenovice on the route between Pacetluky and Holešov; in Holešov, cyclists can join regional cycle route 5033. A microregional cycling circuit also passes through Holešov, Bořenovice, Pacetluky, Karlovice, Kostelec u Hol., Roštění and Rymice. The route information offers two different ways to plan a ride: the farm track describes the connection from Pacetluky through Bořenovice to Holešov, including the option to join another route, while the circuit passes through several villages. Check the condition of the paths before setting out.
