Lesní Jakubov combines a long local history with the Chvojnice, historic farmsteads and a landscape rich in woodland. The earliest written mention dates back to 1356. The Chapel of Saints Cyril and Methodius and two marked cycling routes also give the village a distinctive cultural and scenic character.
Local History and Fortified Manor Houses
A substantial part of the original layout of the village has probably been preserved. Its historic character is shaped above all by original farmsteads along the main road through the valley meadow of the stream. The village developed east of an original fortified manor house on a raised area of land above a meander of the Chvojnice, on its right bank.
Nearby is the almost vanished fortified manor house of Horní Hrádek. It lies at the eastern edge of the cadastral area of Horní Lhotice, on a plateau above the right bank of the Chvojnice and near a ford on the road to the nearby municipality of Lesní Jakubov. Horní Hrádek is one of two fortified manor houses in the village; the manor house probably belonged to Lesní Jakubov. The local history thus encompasses both the development of the settlement and a historic site in its immediate surroundings.
Chapel and Memorial Sites
The Chapel of Saints Cyril and Methodius is a landmark of Lesní Jakubov. A brick bell tower, dating from around the 18th century, once stood on its present site. A monument and a memorial site are associated with the chapel.
Other memorial sites have their own specifically named locations: the monument to the victims of the First World War stands in front of the church. The monument to František Soukop is located on the road to Horní Lhotice, about 1 km from the village centre. These memorials can therefore be distinguished not only by their subject but also by their location in the village and its surroundings.
Woodland Landscape Along the Chvojnice
The cadastral area of Lesní Jakubov has a high proportion of woodland; the forested areas form an almost continuous ring around the village. The western part of the cadastral area lies within EVSK No. 18 “Horní Chvojnice”. The regional biocorridor R05 also runs along the western boundary. It extends partly into the edges of the cadastral area, following the course of the Chvojnice. These details describe both the wooded fringe around the village and an ecological feature along the river.
