The Dalešice Reservoir shapes Kramolín in different ways: the excursion steamer Horáčko departs from the harbour for trips on the water, while Hradisko now lies beneath the reservoir. The Dalešice pumped-storage power plant and traces of a long history of settlement add to the picture.

Harbour and excursion steamer

The Horáčko is based at Kramolín harbour and departs from there for trips on the Dalešice Reservoir. The harbour is about 200 metres from the dam and about 50 metres from the Kramolín Information Centre. This means the Information Centre is closer to the harbour than the dam is. If you are planning a trip on the steamer, check the timetable.

The history of technology on the Jihlava River

The Dalešice pumped-storage power plant was built between 1970 and 1978 in the area of the municipality of Kramolín, on the Jihlava River. The power plant has an information centre that is open to the general public. Its main attraction is an illuminated model of the pumped-storage power plant. The construction period and the model draw attention to the facility itself: its origins and its technical representation in the information centre.

Traces by and beneath the water

Hradisko Kramolín is evidence of a long history of settlement. The traces date from the Neolithic to the Middle and Late Hillfort periods. Today, the site lies beneath the waters of the Dalešice Reservoir. Here, a distant past meets the transformed landscape of the reservoir.

Babylon lookout tower

The stone Babylon lookout tower near Kramolín is one of the oldest lookout towers in the Czech Republic. Count Jindřich Vilém Haugwitz, owner of the Náměšť estate, had it built in 1831 in the Empire style for surveying work. The viewing room is 18 metres above the ground and has windows and a telescope; the ceiling is decorated with zodiac motifs. At Babylon, a practical surveying purpose meets a ceiling adorned with celestial motifs.

Cycling and hiking trails by the reservoir

There are several cycling and hiking trails near the Dalešice Reservoir. Cycle route 5107 runs along the reservoir to the dam and Kramolín. Cycle route 5108 continues to Kramolín via Popůvky. The routes described have different points of reference: cycle route 5107 focuses on the dam and Kramolín along the reservoir shore, while cycle route 5108 follows a longer route through Popůvky. Check the route markers and local conditions before planning a specific trip.

Dřínová hora and its vegetation

Dřínová hora is a new nature reserve in the cadastral area of the municipality of Kramolín. The protection decision was approved on 2 June 2025. The area is an important example of a mosaic of thermophilous woodland communities and rocky steppe vegetation. A report dated 12 August 2025 states that tourist infrastructure such as cycle paths or rest areas cannot be built there. Walks through the forest are compatible with the area. This distinction is useful when planning: cycling and hiking trails are described for the area near the reservoir, while the report rules out the construction of such infrastructure at Dřínová hora.
