On the village green in Záborná stand a statue of Saint John of Nepomuk and a multi-purpose sports field with artificial turf; a large small-leaved lime tree grows beside the road from Polná, with a Marian column beneath it. There are also walking routes of 10, 15 and 25 kilometres. This offers two different perspectives for planning your trip: choosing a suitable route length and exploring local history through the chapel, village green and local details.

Local history in two periods

The earliest reliable written mention of Záborná dates from 23 March 1282. From the first half of the 15th century, the village belonged to the Polná–Přibyslav estate. The two details highlight different historical points: the first dates a written record, while the second describes a later affiliation with an estate. This distinction is useful for placing them in context; the mention in 1282 and the affiliation in the 15th century do not refer to the same event.

Chapel, village green and local landmarks

The Chapel of Our Lady of Sorrows in Záborná belongs to the Roman Catholic parish of Polná. A statue of Saint John of Nepomuk stands on the village green; it was made by the sculptor Václav Morávek from Polná. A large small-leaved lime tree grows beside the road from Polná, with a Marian column beneath it. Religious motifs can thus be seen in the chapel, statue and Marian column. The attribution to Morávek adds an art-historical dimension to these local landmarks.

Walking: three distances, different waypoints

Start by choosing a distance: a 10-kilometre KČT route leads from Polná to Záborná and continues uphill to Bechyňova lipka, where there are seats and a stamp. The 15-kilometre route passes the 564-metre summit of Za Borkem and then descends between the houses to Záborná. A 25-kilometre route passes the hill of Za Borkem and also descends between the houses to Záborná. The waypoints provide a second basis for comparison alongside distance: the shorter route names Polná, Záborná and Bechyňova lipka, while both longer routes include Za Borkem and the descent into the village. Check the latest route information before setting out. Trail conditions and facilities on the 10-kilometre route may change; conditions on the 15-kilometre route may also change.

More to enjoy on the village green

A multi-purpose sports field with artificial turf for children was built on the lower village green in 2009. If you would like to include the field in your plans, check locally whether it is currently open for public use. Another local event is the St Nicholas procession on the eve of St Nicholas Day: St Nicholas, angels and devils make their way through the village, visiting families with young children. The procession is an ongoing tradition; check locally for the date before your trip. These are two different planning considerations: current public access to the sports field and the exact date of the procession.
