Vanov brings together nature and culture with opportunities for outdoor activities. A wet meadow west of the village, mills with different historical backgrounds, a chapel near Vanov and trails with their own starting points give your stay several distinct focal points.

Pastvina u Vanova: Wet Meadow and Habitat

Pastvina u Vanova lies about 500 metres west of Vanov and is an important landscape feature. The wet meadow provides a habitat for significant endangered plant species and is also important for vertebrates and invertebrates. To appreciate it, it is worth considering both aspects together: alongside its plant life, its function as a habitat is also part of what makes this meadow special. The focus on nature is therefore not limited to individual species, but also includes the animal groups for which the area provides a habitat.

Mills from Different Periods

The Šimkův watermill complex dates from the first half of the 19th century and is located just below the dam of a pond. The Šiškův mlýn water-powered grain mill in Vanov marks a different period: it was built in 1793. These two dates point to different construction periods and help show that the mills do not belong to a single era.

Šiškův mlýn also has an additional technical feature. A small stream with a drop of about fourteen metres was used to drive waterwheels in cascades across three levels. The mill’s history can therefore be viewed not only through its construction date, but also through the stepped use of the drop. The approximate height and the three levels together describe how the system worked.

Chapel and Baroque Calvary

The Chapel of St Charles Borromeo stands near Vanov, beside a forest path towards Telč; it was formerly known as Olivetská. The Baroque Calvary is nearby: a cross with statues of the Virgin Mary, St John and Mary Magdalene. The named figures give the depiction a specific cultural context. The 3.5-kilometre “Procházka ke kapli sv. Karla” walking trail from Telč leads to the chapel.

Trails to the Chapel and through Vanov

The 3.5 kilometres refers to the walking trail from Telč to the chapel. The 6-kilometre “Cyklostezka Telč - Řásná” nature trail is a different route: it starts at the drinking fountain in Lipky, passes through Vanov and is intended for cyclists and pedestrians. The two trails therefore differ in their starting points, routes and intended use. When choosing a route, you can decide based on your destination: the walking trail to the chapel or the nature trail from Lipky through Vanov. Check the current route conditions before setting off, as they may change.

Golf between Vanov and Volevčice

Golf Resort Telč is located between the municipalities of Vanov and Volevčice, in a landscape shaped by forests and ponds. Its golf course has 18 holes and covers an area of 70 hectares. Golf is therefore another way to tailor your stay to a specific interest. If golf is part of your plans, check the latest operating information in advance, as operations may change.
