Dušejov offers a cultural focus made up of a Baroque church, a memorial stone and village sculptures. There are also traditional village events and a multi-purpose sports court that is free to use. If you are looking for a holiday apartment, these different interests can help determine where you stay.
Church, Křížový kámen and millstone
The Church of St. Bartholomew is a protected cultural monument. The Baroque building was constructed between 1780 and 1787 to a design by Prague architect Jan Josef Pachner. Its construction dates and designer offer a concrete entry point into the architectural history of the village.
The granite Křížový kámen offers a different point of interest. It is located in the small wood called “Dubovo boroví” between Road 602 from Jihlava and the agricultural cooperative. Three irregular crosses are engraved on its smoothed face. They may symbolically represent the extinction of the Dub family. The crosses are the visible motif; the connection to the family remains a possible interpretation.
At the former site of Zemanův mlýn, a freely accessible millstone serves as a reminder of the former mill. Alongside the history of the church and the engraved crosses, it brings a former place of work and its memorial into view.
Sculptures in the village square
Completed in 2025, the statue of the night watchman is a striking new feature of the village square. It symbolically recalls the village’s former night watchman and older local rhythms of life. The figure thus links a tangible image with the memory of a former village role.
The sculpture “Spirit of the Tree” is also part of the village square. Made from ash wood, it preserves the memory of the tree. It is presented as the square’s second patron and is intended to symbolically point passers-by in the right direction. While the night watchman recalls a former village role, the tree spirit focuses on the material and its symbolism of guidance.
Traditions and activities
The traditional Pálení čarodějnic takes place on Dušejov’s football pitch. Before the bonfire is lit, the programme includes a lantern procession with a task for children. The traditional spring outing starts at the sakura tree in front of the municipal office. If you are planning to travel specifically for either of these events, check the exact date before booking.
The multi-purpose sports court is open to the public and free to use. You can play tennis, volleyball, nohejbal, basketball, streetball and badminton there. However, no marked hiking trail passes through Dušejov. If marked hikes are an important part of your trip, take this difference into account when choosing where to stay.
