The church precinct, with the Church of the Holy Trinity and its cemetery, occupies a prominent position above Vysoké Studnice. From the church tower, the view stretches far across the surrounding area. The location and building history give the site a distinct cultural focus; road and bus connections also play a role when planning your journey. This makes it possible to plan both visits to historic sights and practical aspects of a stay.

The Church of the Holy Trinity and its building history

The Church of the Holy Trinity (Nejsvětější Trojice) is a late Renaissance building dating from 1605; it was consecrated to the Holy Trinity in 1665. It is a single-nave, oriented church; the presbytery has a polygonal end, meaning its choir terminates in several sides. Alterations were made in the third quarter of the 17th century, at the beginning of the 18th century, and in 1888. Restoration work took place in 1998 and 2007. The alterations therefore span the 17th century through to the late 19th century, while the two restoration projects belong to considerably more recent periods. The construction date and consecration mark different milestones: 1605 is the year of construction, and 1665 the year of consecration.

Cemetery, chapels and monument

The cemetery surrounding the church was established in 1720. Its three chapels have square ground plans and hipped roofs covered with wooden shingles. The locations of the entrances can also be distinguished precisely: the pedestrian entrance is at the cemetery’s southwestern corner, while the vehicle gate is roughly halfway along the eastern perimeter wall. The two access points are therefore on different sides and serve different purposes.

Another detail of cultural and historical interest is the statue of Saint John of Nepomuk. It is registered as a protected cultural heritage site and has been protected since 4 January 1973. Its register number is 29619/7-5411. Together, the statue, church, cemetery and chapels offer a view of the church precinct that also includes a monument in its own right.

Getting there and planning your visit

Vysoké Studnice lies 10 km east of Jihlava, on the old road to Brno. Road access is also good in winter, although specific road conditions may vary. On weekdays, bus connections to Vysoké Studnice are adequate; at weekends, only a few buses run. Check the current timetable before travelling by bus, especially if you need to plan your arrival and return for a particular day. When looking for a holiday rental for a stay in the village, this difference between weekdays and weekends is a practical point to consider.

The tower is not regularly open to the public; arrangements can be made to borrow a key. If you would like to include the sweeping view from above in your plans, check in advance locally whether and how access will be possible during your visit. A pilgrimage to the Holy Trinity is also held at the parish church. Contact the parish for the date and programme if you would like to include this event in your travel plans.
