Almost entirely covered with white water lilies, the surface of Rašelinné jezírko Rosička makes a striking natural feature in Sedlejov. It is joined by a regional cycling tour and memorial sites with clearly specified historical connections. Nature, activity and local history thus come together as distinct points of interest to consider when planning a trip.

Natural Monuments and Habitats

Rašelinné jezírko Rosička lies within the cadastral area of Sedlejov. It is designated as a natural monument and a Site of Community Importance. Its surface is almost entirely covered with the white water lily (Nymphaea candida). Wildlife is also part of this natural setting: the pond is a habitat for endangered amphibian species, including the great crested newt (Triturus cristatus). The vegetation cover and amphibian habitat show two different aspects of the site.

Another landscape feature is Hájek u Sedlejova. The area lies about 1.4 kilometres northwest of Sedlejov. The registered former pasture serves as a biotope for vertebrates and invertebrates; at the same time, Hájek u Sedlejova is designated as a significant landscape feature within the area of Sedlejov. Thus, the pond as a protected habitat and Hájek as former pastureland with a biotope function represent different natural themes.

Cycling Through the Region

A regional cycling tour reaches Sedlejov from Telč via Mysliboř on cycle route 5091. From Sedlejov, the same tour continues to Ořechov on cycle route 5123. The two sections describe both the route to Sedlejov and the continuation from the village, giving the tour a clear regional orientation. If you plan to take this cycling route, check the route conditions before setting out.

Stone and Monuments Tell the Story of the Village

The reconciliation stone of Sedlejov is a rectangular stone bearing a raised relief of a trefoil cross. It dates from 1648. While this date refers to the stone itself, oral tradition tells of a fatal accident while collecting the tithe: a person is said to have fallen from a grain cart and lost their life.

Several monuments commemorate people and events from the 20th century. The monument to the fallen of the First World War commemorates citizens who died between 1914 and 1918. It stands at a road junction by a pond below the railway station. The Michael Karpov monument is dedicated to a Russian partisan who gave his life for the Czech people on 1 May 1945. The Jan Lojda monument commemorates Jan Lojda, who was born in Sedlejov in 1890 and died in a field hospital in Kraków on 29 April 1914. These memorial sites highlight different biographical and historical aspects.

Arriving by Train

Sedlejov railway station is served by line 227 on the Kostelec u Jihlavy–Slavonice route. This provides a specific rail connection for planning your arrival; check the timetable for your travel date for actual departure times. Along with the designated cycle route sections, the rail connection offers another point of reference when coordinating your journey with the regional themes of your stay.
