Nový Jimramov stretches across a wide area in the Fryšávka valley and along the surrounding slopes. The village is also located within the Žďárské vrchy Protected Landscape Area. This combination of river valley, slopes and protected landscape gives the trip a clear focus on the outdoors. There is also a marked trail to the ruins of Skály Castle, also known as Štarkov, as well as a protected log cabin that bears witness to regional folk architecture. When choosing a holiday apartment, it is therefore worth first considering whether you mainly want to hike, make the castle ruins your destination, or plan a winter stay. Local attractions range from experiencing the landscape to exploring architectural history, and appeal to different interests.
Hiking Trails and Štarkov
Hiking, cycling and mushroom picking are year-round leisure activities in Nový Jimramov. A red-marked hiking trail runs through the village to the nearby ruins of Skály Castle, also known as Štarkov. For 2024 to 2031, the management plan identifies access to the Štarkov Natural Monument via blue- and red-marked hiking trails. The red trail is therefore relevant both for crossing the village and for reaching the ruins; at the natural monument, blue is an additional trail marking. The red trail creates a direct connection between the village and the ruins. Cycling and mushroom picking are other year-round activities to consider if you do not want to focus your stay exclusively on hiking.
Ruins and Folk Architecture
The castle ruins lie within the cadastral area of Nový Jimramov, on a prominent rock formation at an elevation of 664 metres. Ski Areál Jimramov is also located in Nový Jimramov, but at an elevation of around 650 metres; these elevations refer to two different destinations. In the village itself, a small protected log cabin at house number 40 has been preserved as an example of regional folk architecture. So, alongside the ruins on the rock formation, visitors can also see tangible traces of regional building traditions. These two features represent different aspects of cultural heritage: the ruins are both a distinctive landmark in the landscape and a destination, while the log cabin is a protected example of folk architecture.
A Winter Option with Seasonal Availability
Ski Areál Jimramov is located in Nový Jimramov at an elevation of around 650 metres and has ski runs of varying difficulty. In the 2025/26 winter season, its offerings included a ski school with individual lessons for children and adults, as well as equipment rental and servicing; equipment included, among other things, skis, snowboards and helmets. If you are planning a later winter trip, check the current operating conditions and the availability of lessons and equipment before travelling. Unlike hiking, cycling and mushroom picking, which are possible year-round, a day of skiing depends more heavily on the seasonal offerings. This makes it easier to weigh your travel dates against your preferred activities, rather than planning for winter sports as if they were available year-round.
Find a Holiday Apartment That Suits Your Travel Dates
Marked trails and Štarkov are the main attractions for hiking and experiencing the landscape; for a winter trip, the ski runs and current conditions are key. The protected log cabin adds another aspect of regional folk architecture to explore.
