Radňoves brings together three distinct perspectives for choosing a destination: biogeographical transitions, a medieval settlement form and local firefighting history. Together with cycle route 5245 and a stone cross beside the chapel, these give the place a character that sets nature, local history and historic technology side by side.

Nature between two bioregions

The Radňoves area lies on the edge of the Velkomeziříčský bioregion and directly borders the Sýkořský bioregion. From a biogeographical perspective, the municipality belongs to the Hercynian subprovince. The area has transitional flora from both bioregions, with submontane species such as hairy sedge, three-leaved bittercress and round-leaved sundew. The fauna of Radňoves includes, among others, eastern and western hedgehogs, noble crayfish, freshwater pearl mussels, fire salamanders, smooth newts, sand lizards and smooth snakes; some of these species are listed in the Red Book.

The nature-related themes therefore shift between two scales: the bioregions provide the broader context, while plant and animal species offer specific examples from the area. Those wishing to understand Radňoves in terms of its natural setting can consider these regional and species-level perspectives side by side.

Settlement form and local history

Radňoves is a circular forest-row settlement founded in the Middle Ages; its fields extend radially into the surrounding landscape. The description of the place therefore covers both its historical origins and the spatial form in which the settlement and its fields relate to the landscape.

Beside the chapel stands a stone cross donated by the inhabitants of Radňoves in 1913. It complements the medieval settlement form with a local memorial bearing a specific date. In this way, a settlement layout shaped over a long period and a donation from a particular year offer different ways of approaching local history.

Firefighting history, with a museum and historic equipment

From 2008, volunteer firefighters established the Firefighting Equipment Museum in Radňoves. The museum preserves written, photographic and film archive materials. Visits are possible by telephone appointment in advance.

The Radňoves fire brigade still preserves a hand-operated, four-wheeled, horse-drawn fire engine. Firefighters used it, among other things, during filming of the movie “Andělské oči”.

On 26 August 2018, Radňoves hosted a gathering of enthusiasts of historic firefighting equipment for the 22nd time. More than a hundred firefighters took part with historic equipment. The date marks a specific edition of the gathering; its 22nd occurrence also places it within a recurring tradition.

Cycle route as another planning reference

For planning a cycling trip, route 5245 is a specific point of reference: it runs from Nová Ves through Radňoves to the junction near Vidonín. The route thus identifies both the section passing through Radňoves and the places at either end. Alongside nature and local history, the route offers another way to include the place in a cycling itinerary.
