The complex of St Bartholomew’s Parish Church, the theatrical tradition of the Becheráček ensemble and a gently hilly landscape shape Radostín Nad Oslavou in different ways. Architectural history, recurring cultural events and surroundings of slopes, fields and forests offer different focal points for a stay.

Church Architecture and Historical Landmarks

The complex of St Bartholomew’s Parish Church is the most significant historic building in Radostín Nad Oslavou and also the town’s only monument of particular note listed in the state register of immovable cultural heritage. The complex comprises the parish church building, a freestanding tower, a freestanding chapel and a walled enclosure.

The original complex of the early Gothic church was remodelled in the late Baroque style in the 1770s. During the work, the nave was extended by about a third and the tower was raised to include its present bell stage. The remodelling thus changed both the size of the nave and the height of the tower: an early Gothic origin and a late Baroque transformation meet in the same complex.

On Šibeniční vrch, north of Radostín Nad Oslavou, the group of Tři kříže forms a Calvary scene. Together with mature trees, it defines the landscape of the hill. Religious imagery and landscape impact are closely connected in this group.

Another historical landmark lies east of the centre: Švomův mlýn is located by the bridge on the road to Kněževes. The building was already standing in Radostín Nad Oslavou around 1510. The town’s history at this site therefore reaches back considerably further than the late Baroque remodelling of the parish church in the 1770s.

Landscape and the Wider Regional Setting

Radostín Nad Oslavou lies in a gently hilly landscape of slopes and fields, with forests along the horizon. Streams flow through the valleys around the town, where numerous ponds were created in the past. The Oslava is the largest watercourse associated with Radostín Nad Oslavou. Together, these landscape features reveal open spaces, wooded horizons and valleys shaped by water.

In the wider region around Radostín Nad Oslavou, Bohdalovsko Nature Park encompasses numerous ponds with rare plants and animals. This regional natural feature broadens the view beyond the town’s own landscape.

Theatre, Crafts and Seasonal Cultural Events

The amateur theatre ensemble Becheráček was officially founded in 1911, and its tradition continues to this day. The ensemble regularly holds its premiere in March. Six further performances are attended by around 1,200 spectators from Radostín Nad Oslavou and the wider surrounding area.

At Tvořivé večery, participants create, among other things, arrangements from dried and fresh plants, as well as pieces using wire and beads. Other activities include batik, embroidery, crochet, sheep’s wool felting and various decorations. The topics mentioned thus range from plant arrangements and materials to a variety of handicraft techniques.

A Christmas exhibition has been prepared annually during Advent since 2013, and an Easter exhibition has also been held since 2016. Proceeds from admission fees and the sale of the products are used for charitable purposes.

The cultural events fall at distinct times of year: the premiere is regularly held in March, while the Christmas and Easter exhibitions are tied to Advent and Easter, respectively. If you would like to plan your stay around a particular event, check the specific dates in advance.

A Cycle Route with a Wider Regional Reach

There is also a connection beyond the local area for cycling travellers: the cycle route passing through Radostín Nad Oslavou forms part of a thematic regional cycling route almost 185 kilometres long. This places local architectural and cultural attractions alongside a cycling route on a much broader regional scale.
