Horní Rožínka lies on a hilly plateau at an elevation of about 528 metres above sea level. The bell tower, chapel and commemorative plaque provide tangible points of reference for the village’s history; several cycling and horse-riding routes also pass through the municipality. When looking for a holiday apartment, you can consider whether your stay should focus mainly on the village itself or include a named cycling or horse-riding route in your plans.
Getting there and finding your way around
There is a bus stop next to the Horní Rožínka municipal office. The nearest railway stations are in Rozsochy, Rožná and Bystřice nad Pernštejnem. If you are planning to travel by bus or train, check the timetables for your travel date, as routes and connections may change. The right connection depends on your starting point and the specific date.
Bell tower, chapel and local history
The first written mention of Horní Rožínka dates from 1366. The village was formerly known as Opatská Roženka, and occasionally simply as Roženka. Horní Rožínka remained in the ownership of Žďár Monastery until 1784.
The shingle-roofed bell tower dates from the 19th century and was renovated in 1998. The Chapel of the Virgin Mary is on the ground floor. The tower is listed as a historic monument under number 1000141257. Opposite the chapel, on the corner of farmhouse No. 3, is a commemorative plaque to Sylvestr Blaha. Blaha later headed the military office of President T. G. Masaryk and also served in this role under Edvard Beneš.
Jan Koloušek’s life is also connected with the village: the distinguished Czech economist was born in Horní Rožínka, Moravia, on 15 December 1859. Local traditions included outings organised by the fire brigade every summer under the chestnut trees.
Distinguishing cycling and horse-riding routes
The Santini cycling route 5061 runs from Zvole via Horní Rožínka to Rozsochy. The 31-kilometre cycling trip “Na kole za zábavou” runs via Rozsochy and Horní Rožínka to Zvole. Both route descriptions name the same three places, but in reverse order; the distance applies only to the cycling trip “Na kole za zábavou”. As an option for a different way of travelling, the 129-kilometre Dukovany–Javorek horse-riding trail passes through Horní Rožínka. Check current path and route conditions before setting out.
More things to do in the village
Horní Rožínka has a multi-purpose court with an artificial surface and a children’s playground with climbing equipment. There is also a well-maintained fire-water reservoir where swimming is permitted at your own risk. If swimming is part of your plans, check the conditions on site when you arrive.
