These themes offer different perspectives on the village. If you are looking for a holiday apartment in Pokojov, you can first consider whether local history or nature and protected-area connections will shape your stay more.
Chapel and Small Monuments
The chapel in Pokojov was built in 1862 and is dedicated to Panna Marie Bolestná, Our Lady of Sorrows. Beside the chapel stands a stone cross dating from 1843, 19 years before the chapel was built. The village’s small monuments also include a small Stations of the Cross. Together, the year of construction, dedication and monuments offer a clear introduction to Pokojov’s sacred heritage.
The first explicit mention of Pokojov dates from 1437. A later religious occasion is precisely dated to 15 August 1925: after a new image of Panna Marie Bolestná was consecrated, the chapel was opened to the public. In addition, a Mass was permitted in Pokojov once a year in September. This makes it possible to distinguish the village’s early history from a later chapter in the chapel’s story. A more recent event in the village’s history took place on 3 July 2021, when traditional fishing competitions for children were held in Pokojov.
Most Pond and Historic Mills
Most Pond lies south of Pokojov, with a mill at each end. At the lower mill, grain was ground with a millstone in the traditional way and linseed oil was pressed until 1926. Here, landscape and craft can be considered together: the pond is the geographical reference point, and the lower mill is where this historic work took place.
The Bohdalovský potok forms the southern and eastern cadastral boundaries of Pokojov’s municipal area. Unlike the pond to the south, the stream marks the boundary along two sides of the municipal area.
