The Chapel of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary stands in the centre of the village square in Březské and is a distinctive landmark. It gives the village a tangible cultural focal point. At the same time, Březské can be explored through two themes: the region’s folk culture and the gently rolling landscape in the foothills of the Vysočina. If you are planning a stay, you can decide whether to focus more on a cultural event or on walks through the surrounding area.

Hilly Countryside, Watercourses and a Pond

Březské lies at an altitude of about 468 to 483 metres above sea level; the surrounding hills reach around 500 metres. The area is gently rolling, with the village and the hills shaping different parts of the landscape. The Březinka watercourse runs along the edge of the built-up area and rises in the neighbouring municipality of Březí.

Bodies of water and wet meadows are also part of the local landscape. The Skříňka pond is one of the most significant bodies of water in Březské in terms of ecological stability and improved water retention. Watercourses and wet meadows have the highest ecological stability in the area. Together with the Březinka, this view of the water adds another facet to the picture of the hilly countryside.

Chapel and Regional Folk Culture

The Obchůzka královniček connects Březské with regional folk culture. In the version described in Březské, girls step aside in front of the chapel and sing the song “Král zlámal nohu”; a 2021 description records this scene. The tradition in the Velkobítešsko area was added at the end of 2015, under number 4/2015, to the List of Intangible Assets of Traditional Folk Culture of the Vysočina Region. This places the specific scene at the chapel in a regional cultural context.

A 2022 ethnographic study also describes the pilgrimage to the chapel as an event held from Friday to Sunday in mid-August. If you would like to plan your visit around it, check the current programme before you travel.

Exploring on Foot and by Bike

A marked green hiking trail runs from the north through the built-up area of Březské and continues southeast. Check the markings on site before setting off. The trail therefore passes through the village itself and provides a specific direction for planning a walk.

Two numbered routes with different courses are described for cycling trips. Cycle Route 5241 runs from Čikov via Jáchymov, Osová Bítýška, Níhov and Žďarec to Krčma, crossing the administrative area of Březské from north to south. Cycle Route 5235 runs from Velká Bíteš via Vlkov, Osová, Heřmanov, Dolní Libochová and Strážek to Zvole; it passes through the southern part of the cadastral area of Březské. The routes therefore differ significantly in how they relate to the village. Check the current signs on site before setting off.

Plan Your Journey and Stay

At the edge of Březské, on road III/3793 near the fire station, there is a bus stop with a shelter. If you plan to arrive by bus, check the current timetable and conditions at the stop before travelling. The clearly distinct options can help you plan your stay: a cultural event around the chapel, or time for walks through the village and its surroundings.
