Borovnice combines rural architectural heritage with a landscape shaped by protected-area status and marked trails. Those weighing local history, geological formations and outdoor activities when planning a trip will find several specific points of interest here: farmhouse complex No. 36, Tříkrálový kámen in the centre of the village, and trails in the Žďárské vrchy Protected Landscape Area.

Landscape, Rocks and Marked Trails

Borovnice lies in the Žďárské vrchy Protected Landscape Area and on a yellow-marked hiking trail. The Svratka also shapes the geographical setting of the village: near Borovnice, the river forms a natural boundary between Bohemia and Moravia. The Prosička Natural Monument lies within the cadastral area of Borovnice u Jimramova. It protects a geomorphologically distinctive gneiss rock complex: a rock wall at the summit, surrounded by boulder fields.

A viewpoint at Prosička is on the blue-marked hiking trail from Javorek to Jimramov. Several different route connections are therefore mentioned: the yellow-marked hiking trail at Borovnice, the blue route between Javorek and Jimramov, and cycle routes through or to Borovnice. Cycle route No. 4025 passes through the village. A hiking tour from Telecí reaches Borovnice via cycle route No. 4106. When planning, check the route and number in question; tour information may change.

The trails cannot be compared by a stated walking time or difficulty, but mainly by their described locations and connections. When choosing, it is therefore important to consider whether you have in mind the marked trail at Borovnice, the viewpoint on the route from Javorek to Jimramov, or the tour from Telecí. Consider these route details separately rather than combining them into a single trail itinerary.

Farmhouses and Local History

The farmhouse complex at Borovnice No. 36 is a particularly telling example of regional folk architecture. It has been protected as a cultural monument since 17 September 2024. This very well-preserved property, of exceptional heritage value, is a monumental, two-storey, masonry village house dating from after the mid-19th century. Its distinctive feature is a courtyard enclosed on all four sides. The surviving masonry farmhouses in Borovnice document regional folk architecture as a whole; No. 36 makes this architectural form visible in a specific complex.

The large rural property at farm No. 36 also includes a stone cross dating from the second half of the 19th century. It represents more than a single architectural detail: the cross documents the development of housing, as well as the life and livelihood of a wealthier farmer in the Žďárské vrchy. Together with the complex, it helps place both the appearance of a large farmstead and an aspect of life and work at the time in context.

Another notable monument stands in the centre: the flat Tříkrálový kámen comes from the Svratka. In 1920, a relief of Jan Hus by sculptor Julius Pelikán was set into the stone. The years 1415, 1915 and 1918 are also carved into it. The relief and inscription provide several clearly distinct historical details, while the stone's origin in the Svratka links it to the river.

Chapels are also part of the local history. The Chapel of St Joachim and St Anne dates from 1900. An earlier Catholic Chapel of St Anne was deconsecrated and demolished in 1790. These details describe different historical episodes and should not be combined into an unsupported building history.

Mill and Special Occasion

The Francis turbine at Feltlův mlýn dates from 1911 and is still in operation. Francisův Lokál at the mill can be rented for special occasions. If you are considering the venue for such an event, check in advance whether a suitable date is available; the possibility of renting it does not imply regular restaurant operations.

Borovnice therefore offers a range of reasons to choose it as a travel destination: historic farmhouse architecture and its rural significance, individual memorial sites in the centre, and marked hiking and cycling routes in a protected landscape. Your choice can depend on which of these themes you would like to focus on during your trip.
