Chlumětín can be explored via walks of varying lengths and a distinctive village setting. The Naučná stezka Chlumětín is about five kilometres long; a circular hike of just under 22 kilometres also starts here, on the edge of the Žďárské vrchy. The village has traditional wooden houses, while paths in the surrounding area lead to natural attractions such as Volákův kopec and Filipovský pramen. You can therefore tailor your stay to your preferred route length and your interest in the landscape or architectural history.

Hiking by route length and destination

The Naučná stezka Chlumětín connects Chlumětín with the settlement of Krejcar and continues to the Volákův kopec Nature Monument. The nature trail is about five kilometres long and has only minor elevation changes. Its length and elevation profile provide two specific points of reference for planning this route. The circular hike of just under 22 kilometres also starts in Chlumětín and runs along the edge of the Žďárské vrchy.

The difference in length between the two routes is clear: the nature trail covers around five kilometres, while the circular hike is just under 22 kilometres. This allows you to first consider which distance suits your hiking day. The nature trail is described as having only minor elevation changes. Volákův kopec and the settlement of Krejcar also provide specific destinations along this route; for the longer loop, its location on the edge of the Žďárské vrchy is another point of reference.

The chapel and rural architectural history

The village itself also offers specific points of interest for a walk. The Chapel of the Virgin Mary dates from 1881. Several traditional wooden houses stand on the village square. Another example of local architecture is rural house No. 32, a remnant of a once larger log-house farmstead. The chapel, the houses on the village square and the single house at No. 32 differ in both type and scale: they range from a dated religious building to several wooden houses and the remains of a larger farmstead. If you would like to include the village setting in your stay as well as hiking, these sites offer different aspects of local architectural history.

Ponds, a spring and the Chrudimka

Stará Cihelna is a nature monument on the cycling route to Chlumětín. It consists of a group of ponds in a reclaimed former brick-clay extraction area. Near Chlumětín, a granite obelisk marks Filipovský pramen as the source of the Chrudimka. A hiking route leads from Chlumětín to this spring. Filipovský pramen is also the first of 31 stops on the local-history route Krajem Chrudimky. This means you can also visit the spring as part of a longer sequence of local-history stops. The two natural attractions differ markedly: at Stará Cihelna, the ponds define the former extraction area, while at Filipovský pramen the focus is on the spring and its designation as the source of the Chrudimka.
