Sirákov can be explored through specific points of reference: the Sirákovský potok flows through the village, and the historic provincial border between Bohemia and Moravia lies nearby. Other points of interest include the biography of meteorologist František Augustin, the Čechy–Morava boundary stone on Blažkov, and blue-marked hiking trails. The landscape, local history and trails sit side by side, offering visitors a range of local themes to explore.

The Stream and the Border Location

The Sirákovský potok flows through Sirákov; its source is one kilometre east of the village. Its source and course are two distinct points of reference: the stream runs through the village, while its source lies to the east. Sirákov is also close to the historic provincial border between Bohemia and Moravia. This border location provides a geographical context for exploring the history of the area.

The Boundary Stone on Blažkov

The Čechy–Morava boundary stone stands on Blažkov, at the edge of the forest beside the road towards Újezd. It is a stone prism measuring 170 cm high and 25 × 25 cm wide. Its dimensions make the object’s slender shape clear and distinguish it from the information board and display case at the site.

The site was restored in 2015. Nearby are a historic information board with a map, a display case containing a uniformed soldier, and a covered bench with a visitors’ book. This brings orientation, an exhibition and a place to sit together at one location. Before visiting, it is advisable to confirm the current conditions locally.

František Augustin and Sirákov

A biography also connects Sirákov with the history of Czech meteorology. František Augustin was born on 24 May 1846 in house no. 1 in Sirákov, near Polná, in the Žďár nad Sázavou District. He died on 1 December 1908 and became the leading figure in Czech meteorology in the second half of the 19th century. For travellers interested in the history of science, his birthplace provides a tangible link to Sirákov.

A Recurring Christmas Eve Tradition

The Sirákov Volunteer Fire Brigade regularly holds a gathering on Blažkov on Christmas Eve. Traditionally, potatoes are roasted in the ashes and tea is brewed in a kettle over the fire. Its regular association with Christmas Eve makes this a seasonal theme, distinct from the enduring landscape and historical points of interest. If you would like to include the gathering in your plans, check the specific date in advance.

Hiking Trails and the Chapel

A blue-marked hiking route starts at the junction of the Sirákov–Újezd road, crosses the Sirákov–Bohdalov road and reaches a viewpoint at 680 m above sea level. The junction, the road crossing and the viewpoint’s elevation provide specific points of reference; trail conditions should be checked locally.

A hiking report from 2021 describes a blue-marked route that continues through the Blažkov area to Sirákov, where the Chapel of the Visitation of Mary is located. The chapel adds a specific village landmark to the landscape and historical themes.
