Křižánky combines a distinctive local history with natural and industrial heritage. The village conservation area comprises 45 cultural monuments; educational trails explore the history of file makers, native tree species and the history of the landscape. There is also a clear point of reference for finding your way around: the Svratka River divides the village into Czech and Moravian parts. The different themes and route details of the educational trails are also useful when planning your visit.
River and rocky landscape
The Svratka’s division of the village is a practical point of reference within Křižánky. Devět skal is located in the cadastral area of Moravské Křižánky. This protected, geomorphologically significant gneiss rock formation forms a city of rocks. Its natural features include vegetation on silicate rocks and scree, as well as adjacent woodland.
Conservation area and file making
The Křižánky village conservation area comprises 45 cultural monuments and is the largest village conservation area in the Vysočina Region. This clearly establishes the area’s cultural significance in a regional comparison as well. A specific trace of local craftsmanship is the file-making workshop in the Kupcův Mill complex. It preserves authentic structures and features that bear witness to its original function and historical value.
The educational trail Za Pilníkáři na Český kopec also presents the history of Křižánky’s file makers. The workshop and trail have different focuses: the file-making workshop preserves specific structures and features, while the trail explores the history of local craftsmanship.
Educational trails with different focuses
The Naše stromy educational trail starts in the centre of Křižánky and follows the green hiking trail towards the summit of Devět skal. It has 25 stops, is approximately one kilometre long and takes 30 to 60 minutes on foot. It introduces 19 tree species, mostly native. The walking time provides a practical guide for planning this route; the trees are its main focus.
The Milovská educational trail is a 4.7-kilometre circular route with 20 stops. In a direct comparison of the figures, it is considerably longer than Naše stromy, which is approximately one kilometre long and has 25 stops. Their themes also differ: Naše stromy focuses on tree species, while Milovská explores the history of the landscape below Čtyři palice and traces of glassmaking.
The signs along the Milovská educational trail tell the story of the landscape below Čtyři palice and point out the remains of a glassworks built in 1835. The year refers to the construction of the glassworks; it does not date the educational trail. The trails therefore offer different interests, from nature education to historical landscape themes.
Gallery and visitor information
The educational programme at the Na Milovské huti Gallery includes a guided tour of the glassmakers’ settlement and the exhibition, a lecture and a discussion. It combines different formats: a tour, an exhibition, and lecture and discussion sessions.
The Křižánky Tourist Information Centre is located in the municipal office building and is accessible by lift. This practical point of reference complements the information about the village, conservation area and educational trails.
