Stebno can be explored through two questions: What does the village centre reveal about its architectural history, and which tours pass through the village? The Church of St. Simon and Judas stands in the centre of the village square. The municipal cycling route “Za výhledy na Portu Bohemicu” runs through Stebno; a regional cycling route also reaches the village, and a circular hike passes through Stebno on its return leg. Architecture, cycling and hiking offer different ways to plan your trip. You can consider Stebno as a destination for a focus on cultural history or include it in a cycling or hiking route.
Church and protected complex
The Church of St. Simon and Judas stands in the centre of the village square and is a single-nave Baroque church dating from 1692. In addition to the church building, the protected complex includes the bell tower, the surrounding wall and the gate. The monument can therefore be viewed as an ensemble comprising a sacred building and several other elements. “Single-nave” describes the basic type of church interior, while “Baroque” identifies its style; the year 1692 provides a specific point of reference in time. Those interested in architectural history can thus consider both the church’s architecture and the scope of the protected complex.
The historic Solní cesta
Another historical connection is the Solní cesta. This route led south from Ústí nad Labem via Hostovice and Milbohov to Stebno and retained its medieval name. Stebno thus also appears as the endpoint of a named historic route. The sequence of place names makes the route described easy to follow, while the name’s survival from the medieval period adds a cultural-historical dimension. When planning your trip, it is worth distinguishing this historical context from the specific cycling and hiking routes: the Solní cesta is part of the village’s history, while the other routes provide information for tours today.
Cycling through Stebno
The municipal cycling route “Za výhledy na Portu Bohemicu” passes through Stebno between Podlešín and Dubice. It is 48 kilometres long, with 600 metres of ascent and 600 metres of descent. The distance and elevation profile together give an impression of the scale of the tour. A regional cycling route also describes a connection from Ústí nad Labem via Hostovice and Podlešín to Stebno: it follows cycling route 3090 as far as the village, then continues from Stebno on cycling route 3092 towards Dubice. Cyclists can therefore include in their plans either a longer route with information about its ascent and descent or a route described by named places and route numbers. Check the local signposting on site when following the numbered route.
A circular hike via Vaňov
A circular hiking route passes the Vaňov viewpoints and the Ferrata Lužická spojka. On the return leg, it goes via Stebno, the Vrkoč viewpoint and the Vaňov Waterfall before returning to public transport. The route is about 10 to 11 kilometres long. Compared with the 48-kilometre cycling route, it is a differently scaled tour: the named viewpoints, Stebno and the waterfall are the stops on the return leg, while the cycling route is described by its total distance and elevation gain and loss. Check trail conditions before setting out, as they can change.
