The Perucko nature trail is an approximately 12.5-kilometre circular route with 20 stops covering the history, nature and attractions of Peruc and the surrounding area. Other points of interest include the castle’s architectural history, the parish church and local collections. If you are looking for a holiday apartment in Peruc, you can start by deciding whether hiking trails or cultural history will be the main focus of your stay.
Hiking in and around Peruc
The nature trail starts at the COOP supermarket on Komenského Street and ends there as well. Information boards at its 20 stops provide details about Peruc and the surrounding area. Topics range from history and nature to local attractions. This makes it possible to assess the route not only by its approximate length, but also by the topics you would like to encounter along the way.
Four marked hiking trails run through the municipality of Peruc: the red trail Peruc–Slavětín–Louny; the blue trail from Peruc railway station via Chrastín to Libochovice; the yellow trail from Chrastín via Stradonice to Pátek (railway station); and the Perucko nature trail. The routes are distinguished by their colours and the places named; you should check trail conditions and markings separately when planning your hike. The nature trail is described as a circular route, while the coloured trails pass through several places.
Castle, Church and Emil Filla
Peruc Castle was created in the Baroque period by converting a Gothic fortress. The three-winged building has three risalits, architectural elements that project from the façade. Opposite the castle grounds, on higher ground, stands the single-nave parish church of St Peter and Paul. The master builder E. Kondel built it in 1768–1769. The castle and church provide distinct architectural focal points in the townscape: one is a former fortress that was converted, the other a parish church dating from the 18th century.
Emil Filla’s work also connects Peruc with art history. From 1947 to 1953, the artist worked in part of the castle, where he mainly created landscape paintings of the Bohemian Central Highlands. The Fillova pamětní síň (Filla Memorial Hall) opened in the castle in 1958. If you are planning to visit the memorial hall, check access separately.
Museum, Spring and Memorial Tree
The Museum české vesnice (Museum of the Czech Village) is housed in a former Baroque barn dating from 1876 in Peruc Castle Park. It can be reached through a gate on náměstí Emila Filly. Exhibits include agricultural machinery, ploughs and fire engines, as well as carts pulled by horses or oxen. The collections also include an exhibition on beekeeping and blacksmithing tools. Alongside the castle and art, agriculture and traditional crafts are also in focus.
The Boženina Spring is in the centre of Peruc. It is fed by a spring that emerges from the rock below the castle; the enclosed structure is built of masonry and covered by a Neo-Gothic pavilion. Oldřichův dub, a memorial tree, stands on the edge of Peruc in the Louny District. There is a prepared rest area nearby. The spring and the tree are two further specific features of the area, distinct from its architectural and museum attractions.
