Líšťany can be explored above all through its architectural and commemorative history. Local architectural and memorial sites include a chapel in a Baroque farmstead, the ruins of the main building of Zámek Líšťany, a Renaissance brewery, and religious and secular monuments. A culture-focused trip offers several themes: architecture, the historic use of pilgrimage processions, remembrance, and a route that passes through Líšťany. When choosing accommodation, consider whether you would like to focus your stay on the village’s history or on a longer tour.

Castle Complex and Baroque Farmstead

The Kaple Panny Marie is listed as a protected cultural monument in the Central Register of Cultural Monuments of the Czech Republic. It is part of a Baroque farmstead at house number 1, which is believed to date from the early 18th century. The main building of Zámek Líšťany lies in ruins. The complex also includes a Renaissance brewery with a surviving semicircular vaulted portal and sgraffito. For the chapel, the focus is on its place within the farmstead and the farmstead’s presumed date; for the brewery, the portal and sgraffito are the specific architectural details. The main building’s ruined state is a separate aspect.

Chapels and Religious History

The Kaplička Jana a Pavla stands in an open field at the northwestern edge of the cadastral area and served as a site for pilgrimage processions. The chapel on the road to Zeměchy stands at the northern edge of the village; religious ceremonies were held there during processions. The Kaple Panny Marie was reconsecrated during the pilgrimage celebrations on 25 May 2013. The village’s religious history therefore includes both historic links to processions at two locations and a precisely dated reconsecration.

Monuments and Historical Layers

The monument to the victims of the First World War was erected in 1922; the Masaryk linden beside it was declared a memorial tree in 2018. Above the municipal office stands an 18th-century stone cross, which was restored and reconsecrated in 2006. There is also a statue of Saint John of Nepomuk on a fountain beside the municipal office. The dates 1922, 2006 and 2018 link remembrance of the war dead with a later reconsecration and a more recent memorial-tree designation.

Líšľany was first mentioned in writing on 13 July 1346; Jindřich Slejda is considered the oldest known resident of Líšľany. These early references complement the architectural and commemorative landmarks with a glimpse of the village’s written history and a resident known by name.

Location and Tour Planning

The cadastral area of Líšťany u Cítolib lies at the northern edge of Džbán Nature Park. The 59-kilometre Louny–Křivoklát route passes through Líšťany between Cítoliby and Senkov. Check local conditions before setting out on the tour. Líšťany has three bus stops; if you plan to travel by bus, check the current timetable. The route and the bus stops address different planning needs: the route places the village within a longer itinerary, while the stops provide a practical detail for planning local travel.
