A small Baroque Chapel of St George, a long local history and nearby basalt hill Oblík provide a clear framework for planning a trip to Chraberce. You can combine architectural and art history with the surrounding landscape. Consider whether you want to focus on the village or also set aside time for a longer hike.
The Chapel and History of Chraberce
One account dates back to the year 1100: Nemoj of the Vršovci family gave Chraberce to the church at Vyšehrad. The Vyšehrad chapter community owned the village until the Hussite Wars. Later, in 1544, the town of Louny bought Chraberce from the Vřesovci. This sequence links an early donation with church ownership and the later purchase by a town.
A small Baroque Chapel of St George stands in the village. Its features include a tent-shaped roof and a small turret at the top. Inside is a Baroque painting of St Wenceslas, restored by V. Šváb in 1873. If you would like to see the painting during your visit, check access in advance and confirm its current condition.
Below the chapel stands an empty plinth for a statue of St Bernard dating from 1736. It is decorated with a relief of St George. Check its current condition on site if you want to take a closer look at this detail. The chapel offers a chance to see different traces of religious art: the painting inside and the plinth below the building.
Agriculture is also part of the village's history. In 1930, hops were grown on eight hectares in Chraberce. Hop cultivation adds a concrete insight into how the land was used at the time to the religious and political milestones.
