A cycling route runs through the centre of Blšany U Loun, while a yellow-marked hiking trail leads through the municipality’s administrative area to the turnoff for Blšanský Chlum. Other highlights include the history of a Baroque château, a centrally located pond and an area of geological and ecological importance.
Cycling Route and Hiking Trail
Cycling Route No. 202, “Louny – Peruc”, runs from Černčice along Road III/22941 into the village centre, then eastwards on a local road to Veltěže. The yellow-marked hiking trail No. 6940 is called “Louny, náměstí – Blšanský chlum – Brloh”. It passes through the administrative area of Blšany U Loun, branches off there towards Blšanský Chlum, and then continues towards Chlumčany and Brloh.
The two routes offer different points of reference: the cycling route passes through the village centre and continues to Veltěže; the hiking trail focuses on the turnoff to Blšanský Chlum and the continuation towards Chlumčany and Brloh. The route numbers and place names help you distinguish between the two when planning your journey.
Geology and Protected Nature at Blšanský Chlum
The Blšanský Chlum area is geologically significant. An abandoned quarry and natural outcrops expose parts of the Tertiary volcanic rocks. Two different forms of exposure can therefore be seen side by side: the former quarry and natural rock outcrops. Visitors interested in geology will find a tangible connection here to the landscape’s formation and character.
The area is also designated as a Site of Community Importance for the protection of the Jersey tiger moth (Callimorpha quadripunctaria). It includes xerothermic, or dry and warm, habitats, as well as rare and specially protected plant and invertebrate species. Blšanský Chlum thus offers two distinct points of interest: rock outcrops on the one hand, and special habitats and species on the other.
From Fortified Manor House to Baroque Château
The Zámeček originated as an older fortified manor house. In the second half of the 17th century, it was converted into a Baroque château. Remains of the earlier complex are now incorporated into the château’s residential building. Its architectural history thus links the earlier fortified manor house with the later château.
The Zámeček, together with its granary, in Blšany U Loun is listed as an immovable cultural monument under registration number 42653/5-1149. Both the château’s development and its protected connection with the granary are important to understanding the site.
Remembrance and Getting Around the Village
The war memorial was erected in 1947 in memory of local victims of the Second World War. It also commemorates residents who fell in the First World War or never returned from the battlefields. The memorial has a newly built access path outside the fenced area, as well as a newly laid lawn.
The Rybník pond is in the centre of Blšany U Loun, near the children’s playground and Blšanský zámek. Fishing permits for Rybník are available at the municipal office during its opening hours. Check the current conditions before your visit.
Local Facilities and Events
The Sportovní centrum has a hall or gymnasium and table tennis facilities. Both can be reserved for a fee by arranging it in advance by telephone with the municipal office. Check the current booking conditions beforehand.
In 2026, beadwork and wirework sessions with Alena Prailová are scheduled regularly at the library: Thursdays from 17:00 to 19:00, unless another event is scheduled. Check the current date before visiting.
