Nové Dvory combines a long history with a specific cultural monument and a landscape shaped by the Ohře. Two cycling circuits pass through the village; their lengths and routes offer different ways to include the surrounding area in your travel plans.

Boží muka and the history of the village

The first written mention of Nové Dvory dates back to 1451. A tangible link to the village’s history is the Boží muka: this stone Renaissance wayside shrine is located near house number 10 and is listed as a cultural monument of the Czech Republic. It dates from the second half of the 16th century. The first written mention of the village and the later construction of the shrine therefore represent different points in history.

Traces of the Novodvorský mlýn have also survived, but only as remains hidden in a courtyard. The Chapel of St John of Nepomuk in Chvalín is also listed as an immovable cultural monument within the municipality. It adds to the picture of the municipality’s cultural heritage, while the Boží muka is located right in Nové Dvory.

The Ohře, agricultural landscape and ecological connections

Nové Dvory lies in a historic agricultural landscape whose defining feature is the Ohře. The planning area includes oxbow lakes and alluvial woodland along the river. The Ohře is also designated as a European Site of Community Importance in the Natura 2000 network. The river landscape and cultural heritage thus offer different themes for a stay: the village’s history on the one hand, and the wider landscape on the other.

The municipality includes the functioning regional biocentre NRBC 2002 Myslivna na Ohři, located on the NRBK K11 biocorridor. The Čepel stream and the remaining riverside trees also form a local biocorridor throughout the planning area. These ecological connections operate at different spatial levels: the biocentre and river landscape are part of the wider landscape, while the Čepel and its riverside trees form a local corridor.

Cycling circuits through Nové Dvory

One published circuit is 33.0 kilometres long. It starts in Roudnice nad Labem and passes through Budyně nad Ohří, Chotěšov, Brozany nad Ohří, Doksany, Nové Dvory and Chvalín before returning to the starting point. The sequence of places makes the circuit easy to follow and shows how Nové Dvory fits into a route connecting several villages and towns.

A second circuit is 42.0 kilometres long. From Roudnice nad Labem, it passes through Chvalín and Nové Dvory, then continues through Doksany, Brozany nad Ohří, Bohušovice nad Ohří, Terezín, Litoměřice, Křešice, Lounky, Černěves and Vědomice before returning to Roudnice nad Labem. It is nine kilometres longer than the 33-kilometre route and follows a different sequence of places.

There is also a cycling route connecting the Ohře Cycle Route with the Elbe Cycle Route, following existing farm tracks. Before setting out, it is advisable to check the current surface conditions and accessibility of the routes.

When looking for accommodation, it helps to decide first what you want to focus on during your stay: the Boží muka and other traces of cultural heritage, the Ohře landscape, or a cycling circuit. The specific route lengths and sequences of places make it easier to compare options if cycling is part of your trip.
