The ruins of Kamýk Castle date from the early 14th century; Plešivec offers a very different focus, with open scree slopes, ice holes and ventaroles. Two stages of the Výroční stezka and cycling route 3057 also pass through Kamýk. So when planning a stay, you can first choose between cultural history, nature and hiking, or cycling. The specific stage destinations and the cycling route’s elevation help you decide what kind of days you want to plan.

Castle and Pilgrimage Chapel

The ruins of Kamýk Castle date from the early 14th century. The castle’s main residential and defensive building stood on a basalt rock. This detail adds a concrete picture of the former complex to its date: the location of its central building is also part of its historical context. The path to the castle from Kamýk is not signposted. Check for current information before setting out, as access and trail markers may change.

Less than 1 km northeast of Kamýk is the pilgrimage chapel of the Nativity of Saint John the Baptist. The chapel complex, including a fragment of the outdoor pulpit, is listed as a cultural monument in the cadastral area of Kamýk u Litoměřic. The outdoor pulpit provides a specific architectural detail, while the designation applies to the complex as a whole.

Plešivec: A Natural Monument with Special Features

Plešivec is a protected natural monument. Open scree slopes lie on its southern and northern slopes, where air circulation creates permanent ice holes and ventaroles. The relationship between the terrain and air movement is particularly notable: the scree slopes not only shape the hillsides but also make these features possible. Natural conditions can vary by season. Unlike the castle and pilgrimage chapel, Plešivec draws attention to natural processes rather than architectural history and monument status.

Hiking Stages Through Kamýk

Stage V of the Výroční stezka passes through Litýš, Starý Mlýnec, Třebušín, Staňkovice, Ovčárna, Babiny I, Hlinná and Kamýk. It is approximately 24 km long. Stage VI passes through Kamýk, Porta Bohemica, Velké Žernoseky, Radobýl and Litoměřice. You can compare the two stages by their sequences of places and the approximate length of Stage V.

Cycling on Route 3057

Cycling route 3057 runs from Litoměřice through Libochovany, Kamýk, Hlinná, Babiny I, Ovčárna, Staňkovice, Myštice, Ploskovice and Žitenice, before returning to Litoměřice. It also leads from the Elbe into the hills of the Central Bohemian Uplands and climbs to over 560 m above sea level. Both the sequence of places and the elevation gain are relevant when planning. The route and conditions may change; check the latest route information before setting out.
