Býčkovice lies by the Luční potok, on the southeastern edge of the České středohoří and in the lower part of a broad valley. Its location provides a useful framework for planning your trip: the valley and the edge of the landscape are the geographical reference points, while the local highlights are spread across individual buildings and routes. Rather than assuming a single packed itinerary, you can choose between local history, a short circular walk and a longer cycling route. The routes differ in scale and in when they were documented, which can help you decide what to focus on.

Landscape and circular walk

The Býčkovický Circuit offers a specific way to explore the local landscape. In 2021, it was designated as a green-marked hiking route measuring 1.5 kilometres. At the time, the route began and ended in the village centre by the so-called Hroznatova zvonička and passed through the eastern surroundings of Býčkovice. According to the 2021 description, the route included the slopes of Vinice, two viewpoints and further views across the landscape. The village centre, eastern surroundings and hillside locations thus give the route a clear spatial layout. As the marking dates from 2021, check whether the route is currently marked before your visit.

Architectural heritage in Býčkovice and Velký Újezd

The architectural history can also be traced through specific features. Býčkovice has a surviving late Baroque rectory with a gate; the building is in an advanced state of disrepair. Wayside shrines (Boží muka) also survive and are generally in an advanced state of disrepair. At the eastern part of Velký Újezd Castle stands an octagonal tower bearing the date 1658 for its reconstruction. Octagonal means having eight sides; the date refers to the reconstruction.

Hiking paths and a longer cycling route

Further information about the routes helps distinguish their timing and location. In 2022, a yellow-marked hiking path led from Luční Mlýn to Velký Újezd Castle. Another path connecting Býčkovice with Ploskovice Castle had been renovated in the four years before 2022. Bear the relevant time references in mind when planning, and check current route conditions before your visit.

For a longer ride, consider the official cycling route from Ploskovice to Úštěk: it passes through Býčkovice, is 25 kilometres long, is easy and is suitable for trekking bikes. Unlike the 1.5-kilometre Býčkovický Circuit, this route connects two places. The different lengths help you gauge the scale of each route. If cycling is your priority, you can include Býčkovice as a stop along the route; the circular walk, by contrast, goes through the eastern surroundings of the village.

Arrival and directions

There is a specific landmark to help you find your way on arrival: Býčkovice campsite is 350 metres from the nearest bus stop, Býčkovice (náves). If you are planning to travel by bus, check the timetable using this exact stop name. This lets you match the distance information to the right stop before choosing a connection.
